A space where initially mums & dads who lived in and around St. John's Wood could exchange ideas, post news and share knowledge.

We have now expanded to all areas of London so parents from all over are welcome to share. Mumsinthewood started off initially as a way of maintaining sanity and getting niggling children’s theme tunes out of my head. I neither expected nor planned for the sudden explosion of interest and support I had from parents. Having been born in St John’s Wood, (always home in my heart) it now covers all o

f North London and is continuing to expand across other areas of London. It is first and foremost a place for parents to find support, ask and have questions answered about everything from parenting to education. The Education group is constantly evolving and strives to bring parents and schools together to achieve an open and honest insight into the British education system via interviews, consultations, talks, assessments and workshops which are all geared towards advising, guiding and supporting parents throughout their child’s academic journey. The Community group has been set up to create forums, support networks and set up meetings for expectant mothers, new parents, parents new to the area, expats, locals and parent entrepreneurs to come together and build relationships, learn, guide and support each other. We also have meetings with experts, interviews and guest articles on the website www.mumsinthewood.com and would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us. Given the success of our 4+ mock assessments over the years, we are now offering summer preparation courses for the upcoming 4+ Assessment. Spaces are limited so do please book early to avoid disappointment. The course is divided into weeks (an hour a day) and each week we will focus on a different aspect under each topic. The courses are run by specialist teachers and will cover all activities that are covered at assessments in schools across London. IMPORTANT NOTICE
I have in the past interviewed and recommended the London Youth Concert Band to many parents. However it has recently come to light that when on an international tour, the staff were allegedly consuming alcohol while on duty and allegedly, safeguarding procedures were not followed resulting in several near misses. Given that these allegations have not been addressed and calls from parents for transparency and clarity have fallen on deaf ears despite numerous email exchanges with the conductor and the safe guarding lead (who happens to be the deputy head, pastoral of a leading London Girls School), I formally retract the recommendation until such time as I have further clarification. The interview also has been removed for the time being. I do not write lightly but being a parent I know that my children's safety is paramount and that others in the same situation would want to be in the know.

Mumsinthewood is now offering developmental sessions for children aged 2 years upwards. These play-based, nurturing sessions, focus on early cognitive, social, and emotional development, laying the groundwork for future 4+ preparation. Parents will also receive guidance on how to reinforce key skills at home, making for a smooth transition into more formal preparation later on.
