Zero Impact Net by Leela Velautham

“I don’t think you understand, this is something that’s going to actually happen, in the world, it’s not just some marketing –“

While initially hopeful of her ability to make a difference working in a university sustainability office, Jess instead finds herself managing the expectations of despondent students, over-critical faculty, her fiercely uncompromising supervisor, and the more bureaucratically-minded Vice Provost. When Philip, a representative from a large tech company arrives to propose a public-private partnership that appears to be too good to be true, Jess is forced to confront whether engaging in morally questionable action for the environment is better than doing nothing at all. About Leela Velautham Leela Velautham is a two-time semi-finalist of the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and a finalist in the University of Oxford’s New Writing Festival in 2011 for her play “Schroedinger’s Hat”. Her play “Post-Scarcity Possibilities” was staged as part of the 2022 Meganne George Women’s Work Short Play Festival at the New Perspectives Theatre Company and a reading of her play “Take my Milk for Gall”, a prequel to Macbeth focusing on Lady Macbeth’s fertility issues, was presented at the Amphibian Stage SparkFest in June 2023. Most recently, Leela was a member of the 2023-24 PlayGround Playwright Residency Program and the AJT Theatremacher cohort.

We do, but now we have to share them with everyone else. They were given away during the communist uprising of 1997.”

Sweet Treat

makes work that is playful, unsettling and a little dangerous. Formed by performers and makers across theatre, film, dance and music, we create actor-led worlds where humour and darkness sit side by side. Rooted in ensemble and play, our process explores the strange chemistry that emerges when people are pushed beyond themselves. We are interested in transformation, power, devotion and the messy space where performance and reality begin to blur.

MotoBR

MotoBR is a co-creation project developed by Gustavo Dias-Vallejo alongside five Brazilian delivery workers in London (Naira Brandão, Luiz Queiroz, Ane Silva, Alexandre Vásquez, Dyogo Costa) produced by Weronika Dwornik. The show is part of a longer creative collaboration between the group including a short documentary, an exhibition in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts and a collective performance for the Totally Thames Festival 2027. The co-creation performance project gives participants a platform to creatively speak for themselves while illuminating aspects of the relationship between migration, cheap and unregulated labour and technology in the 21st century.

KASSNA

, meaning “a woman wearing a man’s hat” in the southern part of South Korea, is an interdisciplinary performing arts collective advocating for East Asian female and migrant working-class voices in the UK. Led by Namoo Chae Lee and Suyoung Park, KASSNA explores postcolonial female bodies, migration, and the tension between cultural inheritance and contemporary identity. We create bold, poetic, socially engaged work across movement, music, visual imagery and collaborative practice. Built on trust, generosity and care, KASSNA tells stories between cultures, identities and forms, tracing how history, migration and power shape everyday life, society and bodies.

ALPAQA is a q***r & migrant-led theatre company, making ‘Trojan Horse theatre’: using raucous humor and high camp to interrogate urgent political themes. Our practice blends in-the-room devising with poetic writing and music, tempered by a
clowning background. Fighting for change whilst being as silly as possible.

We reject the fourth wall, treating audiences as active co-conspirators in a sweaty, ecstatic, and dangerous theatre that prioritizes migrant joy as a form of resistance.

Our debut show JEEZUS! won the 2025 Untapped Award and The Stage’s Fringe Five. Previous collaborations with other Alpaqa members include: The Dirty Thirty, Playing Latinx & Eating Myself.

Snakes and Ladders — a first sharing of a play by Hamed Vojoudzadeh at Bold Theatre.

Saturday 13th June, 5.30PM | Free event (Booking essential - head to to find out more)

Snakes and Ladders is a powerful and intimate play created by Zhvan Theatre Company, and produced by We Restart Charity – Art Centre of Sanctuary in partnership with LegalAliens Theatre. Written by Hamed Vojoudzadeh, an Iranian journalist, activist and refugee who has been attending LegalAliens’ Tottenham Project for over three years, the play is rooted in lived experience and shaped through a collective creative process. Blending storytelling, movement, and visual language, the performance follows Hamed’s journey
from Iran across Europe to the UK, framed through asylum interviews and moments of reflection. As his memories unfold, the audience is taken into refugee camps, border crossings,
forests, trucks and boats—where survival often feels like a game governed by chance and forces beyond one’s control. Like the board game Snakes and Ladders, moments of hope and progress can quickly turn into setbacks, delays, and unexpected falls.

The show is presented as part of the Human Rights Festival during Refugee Week, contributing to a wider programme that celebrates courage, creativity, and the right to dignity for all

“SERIOUSLY ANJALI, YOU NEED TO SNAP OUT OF THIS PERINATAL DEPRESSION OR WHATEVER – IT’S REALLY GETTING ME DOWN”

A twisted dark comedy about an ill-matched South Asian couple, still reeling from a miscarriage and now split apart by the first Covid lockdown – she shielding with her vulnerable mum, he furloughed alone with his Xbox – and how a 60-minute real-time Zoom call exposes lies, betrayals and a devastating revelation, culminating in a cathartic act of revenge.
