As Volunteers’ Week came to a close last week, we were delighted to celebrate the people who make so much of our work possible.

On Friday 5th June, we hosted a thank-you party for our volunteers at Danson Stables as a small way of showing our appreciation for everything they do throughout the year.

Guests enjoyed live music from Planets, great food, and a goody bag for everyone who was able to attend.

To all of our volunteers, thank you for your time, commitment and dedication. Your support helps us continue providing vital services, activities and connections for members of the Irish community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

It’s Volunteers’ Week, and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every one of our volunteers.

Across our services, volunteers help create welcoming spaces, offer companionship, support events, share their skills, and make a real difference to the lives of people in our community. Their kindness, generosity, and commitment are at the heart of everything we do.

Whether it’s a few hours a month or a regular commitment, every contribution matters, and we are incredibly grateful for the time our volunteers give.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, give something back, and become part of a supportive community.

Thank you to all our volunteers, past and present. Irish Community Services would not be the same without you.

We were delighted to attend the Embassy Reception on 18th May to welcome the President of Ireland, Her Excellency Catherine Connolly, during her official UK visit. Our Executive Director, Shauna Mulligan, and Chair of Trustees, Eamonn Dillon, were honoured to meet and speak with the President alongside colleagues from across the Irish community.

It was a truly wonderful evening and a very memorable moment.

On 14th May, our Trustee Vince Dignam and CEO Shauna Mulligan were incredibly honoured to attend Gloria Hunniford’s Freedom of the City Award ceremony at the Guildhall in London.

Gloria was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of her outstanding contribution to entertainment, alongside her tireless campaigning and advocacy work as a breast cancer charity ambassador.

As a proud Irish woman and long-time supporter of Irish Community Services, it was a real privilege to celebrate such a special occasion alongside Gloria, her family, friends, and supporters.

A truly memorable day recognising an inspiring woman and her remarkable achievements.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Deidre Fraser and Gerry Waldron from the Embassy of Ireland to our Aggie’s Café Project, part of our Weekly Socials Project.

It was a wonderful morning spent chatting with our book club members, café guests, volunteers, and trustees Vince Dignam and Eamonn Dillon. The café is run by the brilliant Bernie alongside a fantastic team of dedicated volunteers who create such a warm and welcoming space each week.

It was also lovely to have the opportunity to wish Deidre well ahead of her move to America later this summer.

Visits like these are a great reminder of the importance of community spaces like Aggie’s Café and the connections, friendships, and support they help foster across our community. We are very grateful to Deidre and Gerry for taking the time to spend the morning with us.

A lovely sunny morning at our Juniors Storytelling event at Premier Lodge Day Nursery.

It was brilliant to see so many families come along, with plenty of smiles, laughter and a bit of magic in the air. Our storyteller Olivia had everyone captivated with some great Irish tales and songs for all ages.

As part of the Growing Together Partnership, the space gave families time to enjoy the soft play, nature trail, arts and crafts, and simply be together.

A big thank you to the team at Premier Lodge and to everyone who joined us and made it such a special morning. We’re already looking forward to the next one.
