📣 New(ish) team introductions! 🤝

We have had some changes in our team over the last few months and got to welcome some wonderful new faces to our AAN team! Meet Asia Bonciolini, Lamiae Zeriouh, Yakup Deniz Kahraman, and Michaela Ahonen.

🎤 Asia loves karaoke and is living proof that confidence and singing talent are two completely different things. Her enthusiasm is definitely louder than her singing skills (her words, not ours ☝️).

✍️ Lamiae is a morning person, and her early mornings often turn into little verses of poetry.

🏖️ Outside of his studies, Yakup loves summers, even the too hot ones, and he's been playing classical guitar since childhood.

🐶 Michaela taught Adobe Photoshop to her neighbour's boyfriend all summer long, just to earn enough money to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder. The puppy is now her 16 year old dog. 💕

If you are an activist, scholar, or practitioner using anthropology to navigate times of emergencies, we want to hear from you. Share your real-world impact at the Why The World Needs Anthropologists symposium in Salamanca, Spain!

🎤 Present a Perspective: Give a fast-paced, high-energy presentation in the Pecha Kucha style (20 slides × 20 seconds).
🚨 Host a Workshop: Lead a dynamic, action-focused session that provides hands-on training, builds practical skills, and inspires collaboration.

Consumption shapes far more than what we buy. It influences how we form identities, build relationships, negotiate belonging, and imagine the future. Bringing together perspectives from anthropology, design, and cultural analysis, this conversation explores how meaning is created, circulated, and lived through everyday consumption - from the objects we use to the styles that define time and place.

At a moment of rapid cultural and technological change, our Apply Club panel asks what contemporary consumer cultures reveal about how we are learning to live, and how applied anthropology can help translate these shifts into deeper, more human-centered forms of insight and practice.

Are you an activist, scholar, or practitioner using anthropology to navigate times of emergency? Do you have practical tools, innovative frameworks, or hands-on strategies that can inspire others? We want to hear from you!

For the 2026 Why The World Needs Anthropologists event in Salamanca, Spain, we are looking for dynamic, action-focused workshops.

We’re looking for sessions that:
- Provide practical, "hands-on" training.
- Demonstrate new frameworks and applied methods.
- Build skills and capacities for both anthropologists and non-anthropologists alike.
- Embody courage, care, and collaboration.

There are no imagination limits to this call!
If your work involves cross-disciplinary approaches and real-world impact, this is your stage 🎤

Not one, but TWO keynotes speakers! 🥁

We are thrilled to announce the third presentation for WWNA 2026 in Salamanca, featuring a dynamic collaboration between Dr. Antonio Molina Fernández (Complutense University of Madrid) and Dr. José Antonio Martín Herrero (University of Salamanca)!

Together, they will tackle a massive global challenge in their talk: “Wars, Substances and Addictions: Perspectives and Solutions from Social Anthropology to a Global Problem”. 🌍
