Our celebration 15 years of Autism's got Talent is 7 weeks today !!!!

This is 'Atypical with Attitude' also known as 'Autism with Attitude' .

This was one of my favourite routines . We are excited to bring them all back to perform this year whoop!!!

'We have come a very long way since 2013 when our group was formed, and Autism's Got Talent was where it all began.
I has been 3 years since we've performed at AGT so it was an emotional return for us and we were absolutely delighted to kill it on stage once again!!!

For some of our members, it was more than a performance, it was a nostalgia trip down memory lane. Some have performed at AGT since 2014 so it was a really big deal for them!

A massive thanks to Anna Kennedy and the team at AGT for having us on your stage again, and a big thanks to the lovely parents and friends for filming our performance!!!

How are you all coping with this heat and humidity? 🥵☀️

I don’t know about you, but I have had enough now and finding it draining.

This feels like the sort of weather where you haven’t even done anything and you are already shattered! 😅

For many autistic people, the heat and humidity can make sensory overload, sleep and just getting through these hot days making it that bit harder too. Angelo is definitely struggling at night. He finally fell asleep at 3 30 am zzzz

We are all taking it one day at a time at our house also checking in on Nanna Coral.and Aunty Pam both in their 90s , keeping cool where we can, drinking plenty of water and not putting too much pressure on ourselves. Although easier said than done lol

If today is a just get through the day kind of day… that’s absolutely fine.

How are things in your house?

Well, that’s me told! 😂

Today I had a burst tyre while driving on the motorway with Angelo in the car.
Not exactly what you need on a boiling hot day! 🥵🚗

Patrick was at work and was worried about us, so he asked his boss if he could ring me this afternoon to make sure Angelo and I were OK.
It was very thoughtful of him ❤️

Then he explained he was especially checking that I was OK in this heat 🥵
“Because of your age, Mam.” 😱🤣

Cheers Patrick!! I’m only 66, not 106! 😂
Lovely that he worries about his old Mam though. I’ll let him off... this time! ❤️
Never a dull moment in our family.

I think we must be up to our 6th heatwave now! ☀️🥵

I even heard that in some parts of the UK it has been so hot that apples in orchards have been practically cooking on the trees and turning to mush! 🍎

So, just a gentle reminder as we try to get through August and yet more hot weather...
For many autistic people, the heat isn't just uncomfortable. It can increase sensory challenges, anxiety, exhaustion and that feeling of simply being overwhelmed.
What feels like "a lovely hot day" to one person can feel unbearable to someone else.

A few things that may help:

💧 Keep hydrated throughout the day.
🌳 Stay somewhere cool or shaded where possible.
👕 Wear comfortable, familiar clothing that feels right for them.
🧊 Fans, cooling towels or favourite cold drinks can sometimes help.
⏰ Take regular breaks and try to avoid the hottest part of the day.
❤️ And most importantly try to be patient.

Every autistic person is different and experiences the heat differently.

For those with minimal verbal skills, like my Angelo, we need to look as well as listen.
Changes in behaviour, body language, sounds or becoming more unsettled may be their way of telling us something isn't right.
After all these years, I still watch for those little signs.
Make adjustments where you can, don't put pressure on yourself or them, and if plans have to change because it's simply too hot , then plans change!

We're all just trying to get through another very hot August.
Look out for one another. A little kindness and understanding really can go a long way.
