During the reception, Secretary Kunga met with the Hon. Seema Malhotra, Labour and Co-operative MP for Feltham and Heston and former Minister for the Indo-Pacific. He expressed grave concern over China’s so-called Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress Law and urged the UK Government to press China for its repeal.

He also raised concerns about the British Government’s 2008 policy shift on Tibet, under which the UK moved away from recognising Tibet’s autonomy and recognised China’s sovereignty over Tibet. He noted that Tibetans continue to call for a review of this policy.
