Medical Update

New Delhi, 12 June - Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, Senior Consultant at Apollo Hospitals, said: “His Holiness the Dalai Lama underwent successful left knee replacement surgery on Monday, 8 June, in New Delhi.

“Throughout his treatment, His Holiness’s personal medical team and the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama remained in close coordination with the administrative and medical staff at Apollo Hospitals. His Holiness is stable and expected to make full recovery. He was discharged on Friday morning, 12 June.

“It has been a great honour for the hospital and the medical team to serve His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We are grateful for the trust and confidence placed in us and privileged to have been able to contribute to His Holiness’s care.”

We bade farewell to the wonderful TIPA group at London Heathrow airport this evening. On behalf of all the Tibetans in the U.K. and well-wishers we wish them a happy, safe and smooth travel to Delhi India. Their short visit program here, their first in over 20 years, helped bring Tibet’s rich cultural heritage to the fore. What a privilege and honour to have them here!

The Tibet group in the Latvian Parliament, the Saeima, has on Jun 3 held a conference on Tibet with Richard Gere, Hollywood star and Chair of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), Washington, being the keynote speaker. The Conference was hosted by Latvian MP Juris Viļums, Chair of the Group for the Support of Tibet, bringing together politicians, civil society representatives, and the international Tibet movement in a show of Baltic solidarity.

We took TIPA troupe on a sightseeing tour of London today. Luckily, the weather was favourable and we managed the commute fairly smoothly despite the tube strike.
