Today, our incredible Child Poverty Action Walkers begin their challenge! 🚶‍♂️‍➡️

Over the next two weeks, they'll be tracking their steps to help achieve a collective 4 million steps for the 4 million children growing up in poverty across the UK.

The wonderful Armando Iannucci recently spoke to some of the children at a school we’ve worked with. He learned about the steps the school has taken, with our support, to make sure poverty isn’t a barrier to any child’s education.

Our chief executive Alison Garnham will be leaving CPAG later this year to take up a life peerage in the House of Lords.

Alison says:

'CPAG is an organisation that’s hard to leave. I want to thank everyone who has worked at or supported the organisation for their amazing efforts which have made my 16 years as chief executive so rewarding.

'Being in the House of Lords will be an enormous privilege. The fact it has been offered to me is testament to the work of all the organisations I have worked for over the years: being a welfare rights adviser in Citizens Advice, working in mental health and adult learning settings, working as a volunteer to end violence against women in R**e Crisis and Women’s Aid, and working for University of North London, for One Parent Families and Daycare Trust – what a privilege to have worked for such brilliant and inspiring organisations and to work with all the amazing and talented people in them.

'It is of course a particular recognition of the importance and influence of CPAG and a feather in our cap that our work has been recognised in this way. I have everyone else to thank for it and a lot to give back. I look forward to working from the Lords to ensure every child in the UK has a fair start in life.

'CPAG will soon be recruiting for my successor - if anyone is interested in going for the best job in the sector, now is your chance!'
