SYP Trust

SYP Trust Transforming lives of children and young people
Young people are the future, and that makes them society’s greatest asset.

Through our grant-making we strengthen the support available to vulnerable, disadvantaged and excluded young people in London by supporting opportunities for them to learn, be healthy, be heard, and be active citizens. We support work to remove the barriers and challenges many young people face when working towards these goals and which contribute to the widening inequality in our society.

Our Story

Dedicated to supporting vulnerable, excluded and generally disadvantaged young people, to find their voice, to be healthy, to learn, develop, achieve and be able to make a positive contribution to society by providing them with the opportunities, environments, experiences and education necessary for them to achieve their aspirations and fulfill their needs.

We were founded in 1843 in London by William Williams, a Solicitors Clerk, who saw destitute ‘street children’ on the streets of London and set about providing them with living accommodation and an education.

We ran a number of children’s homes and had a training ship, the T.S. Arethusa, which was docked in Lower Upon and where we trained boys for a life in the Royal and Merchant Navy. We also ran an outdoor education centre on that site called the Arethusa Venture Centre. We also have an Alternative Provision Setting in Coventry, The Keresley Centre.
