Here’s your weekly round-up from ! We're sharing takeaways from our event on writing great briefs, highlighting ways to get involved in upcoming events, and exploring three levels of AI use across the sector in our latest blog. Plus, more here:

1. Our event explored how to write great briefs and get the content you need when commissioning films and photography. Here are some key takeaways:
> Briefs often fail when they are written in isolation, vague, focused on outputs not outcomes and disconnected from the audience. Stronger briefs put the audience first, involve stakeholders to co-create the narrative and plan distribution before any content is captured.

> An ethical brief is not just about collecting stories; it’s about creating safe avenues for people to tell them. It must answer how people are represented, who decides, who benefits, and how their story will be used. Good briefs protect dignity, safety and truth as much as they produce content.

> When auditing your current brief, think about what has changed in the last two years, from the political landscape to technology and how audiences consume content. Audiences now ask who decided what story to tell and who got paid, whether AI is involved and how content will be used as it lives forever online.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. Special thanks to our wonderful host Lauren Pope, and speakers Mutave Mutemi from Sightsavers and Corrine Clarke, freelance comms expert. Catch the recording on demand soon: https://bit.ly/4crvM4m

Here’s your weekly round-up from ! Dive in for takeaways from our Changing the Story seminar, how you can get involved in a week of hope, and more findings from our 2025 report. Plus more here:

1. Today’s Changing the Story seminar explored practical insights on reframing narratives and creating communications that move the dial. Here are three key takeaways:
> FrameWorks UK gave us the tools. For communicators, changing the story means recognising that key mindsets repeat across many social issues charities are working on. Framing is a tool we can use to shift thinking beyond individualism, fatalism and othering narratives, and build belief that systems can be redesigned for the better.

> Bite Back brought those tools to life. Putting youth voices and lived experience at the heart of their work, they showed how storytelling can expose industry tactics and build belief in a healthier food system. Their campaign focused on shifting the focus from individual blame to the systems shaping children’s health.

> nfpResearch grounded this in the current context. Many people feel the country is heading in the wrong direction, according to research, but that also means people are ready for change. Charities can turn concern for issues into action by knowing how to influence power levers, giving people something to do, and showing that change is possible.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. Special thanks to our wonderful speakers Sophie Gordon at FrameWorks UK, Rory Gibson at Bite Back and Tim Harrison-Byrne at nfpResearch. If you missed it, catch up on the recording soon: https://bit.ly/4sUBBNs

2. The 2025 report findings reveal a connection between having a comms strategy in place and feeling valued internally, alongside trends towards smaller, leaner teams and a lack of leadership understanding of communications. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3P3vd8e

Here’s your weekly round-up from ! Explore the latest findings on marcomms salaries and what charity comms professionals value most at work in the 2025 report. Plus takeaways from our event on wellbeing in tough times and more here:

1. This morning’s event explored practical wellbeing approaches for supporting ourselves and colleagues through challenging times. Here are some key takeaways:
> Build connections through newsletters and Slack channels to help colleagues feel seen, informed and valued. Use the spaces to share news, celebrate achievements publicly, encourage shared interests and even randomly match colleagues for informal chats that strengthen relationships beyond immediate teams.
> Protect your wellbeing first by setting healthy boundaries and making space to think. Internal communicators are often on the frontlines, especially during challenging times, so don’t handle it alone. Find trusted sounding boards who can offer support and perspective when things feel difficult.
> Nurture a team culture that protects wellbeing and resilience. Encourage colleagues to step in and support each other during busy periods, handle hard days with care and recognise what matters to people in and outside of work.

Thanks to everyone who joined us this morning. Special thanks to our wonderful host Sarah Browning, and speakers Jade Charles at Chartered College of Teaching and Lucy Green at University of Southampton. If you missed it, catch up on the recording soon: https://bit.ly/4ccOfR0

Here’s your weekly round-up from ! We're sharing examples of brand work in practice with key takeaways from our event, our latest blog practical ways to source and manage human interest stories, and so much more.

1. Yesterday's event explored examples of brand work in practice, from navigating difficult decisions to learning what drives impact. Here are some of the headlines:
> Brand equity is not just recognition, heritage, consistency or internal affection. It is the mental shortcut that makes people more likely to trust you, choose you and give to you without needing to be convinced from scratch every time.

> To assess what is really worth keeping during a rebrand, Red Stone shared the three F’s: familiarity, feeling and function. If an asset is easy for the brain to process and recall, triggers positive associations like trust and warmth, and actively removes friction in how people understand and choose you, it’s likely holding real equity.

> A successful rebrand relies on full organisational buy-in, not just creativity. For the MND Association, securing senior buy-in, over-communicating, involving teams across the organisation and planning for implementation early ensured the brand could be understood, adopted and deliver real impact.

Thanks to everyone who joined us this morning. Special thanks to our wonderful host, Lizzie Pring, and speakers Richard Corr at Red Stone and Siobhan Gray at MND Association. If you missed it, catch up on the recording soon: https://bit.ly/4v9nYeV

Here’s your weekly round-up from ! We're exploring content lifecycles sharing key takeaways from our event, how you can get involved in A Million Acts of Hope, and so much more.

1. Today's event explored content lifecycles and how to plan, adapt and reuse content so it works harder across channels, campaigns, and over time. Here are some of the headlines:

> The pressure to constantly create can lead to treating content as a one-off output. But audiences arrive at different points in their journey, so what feels “old” internally can still be new, useful and valuable to those discovering your charity for the first time.

> Publishing is just one stage in the content lifecycle. Analytics and regular content reviews help teams identify what worked and turn it into planned repurposing across channels, formats and audiences to drive longer-term impact.

> Incorporating social-first content and trends isn’t always straightforward. It requires adapting trends to fit your tone and guidelines, while using existing content and messaging to respond quickly in a way that still feels authentic and aligned.

2. Want to help make hope louder than hate? Join us in celebrating that there is more that connects us than divides us by planning your act of hope, ordering a poster and signing the UK’S biggest ever thank you card to the people that make hope happen: https://millionactsofhope.org/

Read more about it here: https://bit.ly/4mq41wx

5. In charity comms, “going the extra mile” can quietly become the default. Stress does not always look like a breaking point; it often shows up in smaller ways. When it builds over time, it can turn into burnout and affect your wellbeing. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4tIEukr
