Manna UK Branch of Meir Panim As Israel’s premier social services organisation, Manna - Meir Panim is fighting the poverty crisis in Israel.

Over 2 million Israelis live below the poverty line, equivalent to nearly 25% of the total population. Last year we provided over 1 million meals including ten times the clients’ receiving meals on wheels (home delivery). In summary, last year we also provided:

15,000 Food packages prepared for families and meals on wheels delivered to the elderly

4,718 Food Shopping Cards distributed before festivals

15,000 Challas given out for Shabbat

200 children supported by 5 Meir Panim After-School Clubs

Holocaust Survivors Day Programme

Single mothers Career Training Programme

2,000 families benefiting from our Power of Giving furniture warehouse

7,000+ volunteers donating their time.

There are some mysteries we may never solve. Where does the other sock go? Why is there always one lid that fits nothing?

And then there's this one. How does anyone fly to Ben Gurion Airport and leave the buggy behind?

Yet somehow, it happens.

So Meir Panim has teamed up with the airport. Unclaimed buggies now go to Meir Panim's branch in Dimona, where they're passed on to families who need one.

For a parent juggling a toddler, shopping bags and a bus timetable, that's no small thing.

Partnerships like this bring the buggies in. But it's thanks to your support through Manna that keep the branch running. Your kindness keeps the kitchen serving hot meals every day, and the doors open each morning for anyone who walks in.

Tonight, Jews all over the world move out of their homes and into the sukkah to remember how our ancestors lived in the desert.

Sukkot is also the festival of ushpizin, the guests we invite to our table each night. At Meir Panim, welcoming guests isn't a once-a-year custom, its an every day practice: whoever walks through the door is treated as an expected guest.

Thousands of festival meals have gone out across the five branches. After Yom Kippur, the Or Akiva team even received 700 chickens from Kapparot, prepared and ready to cook. They're now feeding families over Sukkot.

All of it happened because UK supporters kept the table set. Thank you.

Rosh Hashanah has just finished, and there's something worth saying properly: thank you. Every meal, every food box, every card handed over the counter happened because of our kind donors.

But it wasn't only your gift that got it there. Hundreds of volunteers across all five branches sorted, packed, cooked and delivered. Their time is free, so more of what you give goes straight into the food itself, not the running of it.

This week especially you could see that mix of joy and relief as patrons received their packages, knowing that there are kind people ensuring they are not forgotten on Rosh Hashanah.

A happy and healthy New Year from all of us at Manna.

Manna supports the work of Meir Panim. Across five centres, in Jerusalem, Tiberias, Tzfat, Or Akiva and Dimona, anyone can walk in and eat a hot meal in company. No forms. No questions. For a family stretching a small budget, a food shopping card lets them choose what they need. A food box fills an empty cupboard. For those who cannot leave home, a volunteer brings a meal and stays to check all is well. Often they are the only visitor that day.

There is more: the Free Shuk and communal Friday night dinners. Last year that came to more than a million hot meals.

No one should face the New Year hungry, or alone.

In a few days, families across Israel will sit down to apples and honey, a round challah, a prayer for a sweet year.

For thousands of families, this year’s table will be bare. Food costs have climbed. Pensions and wages have not kept up. For an older person living alone, the New Year can be the loneliest week of the whole calendar.

Manna supports the work of Meir Panim, and it is work that changes things. Across five centres, in Jerusalem, Tiberias, Tzfat, Or Akiva and Dimona, Meir Panim serves a hot meal to anyone who walks in. No forms. No questions. A food box goes home with those who need one. A meal reaches the door of anyone who cannot get out.

Take Eitan’s family in Jerusalem: a son living with a severe brain injury, parents who have put their own lives on hold to care for him. Every week they come for a meal, and for the company of people who know their names.

This week, children in the UK and Israel head back to school.

Getting new stationery and backpacks is an exciting moment for the returning students. But for families in Israel stretching every shekel, that backpack is only the start of a long list. Shoes that no longer fit. Clothes that were too small last year. A pencil case with the basics every other child already has.

Meir Panim sees this every day: parents doing all they can so their child walks into class feeling like everyone else.

This year, we're providing these real supplies, from notebooks and pencil cases to a full backpack kit, so a child starts the year ready, not worried.

Rosh Hashanah is nearly here.

Across Meir Panim's centres in Israel, the work is already underway. Kitchens are busy, food boxes are being packed, and volunteers are getting everything ready so that families and older people have somewhere to turn as the New Year arrives.

For many of the people we serve, it means not sitting down to the chag alone.

None of it happens without supporters like you here in the UK.

Another week filled with smiles and goodness at Meir Panim.

Election season is heating up across Israel, with campaign posters going up and politics on everyone's lips. At Meir Panim, the routine doesn't change. Doors open, meals are prepared, and patrons are welcomed in.

In Jerusalem, a patron came in for a hot meal and headed home with a little extra to take with her. In Tzfat, our restaurant style soup kitchen had meatballs ready to serve. In Yerucham, volunteers packed food boxes for families who need them. And in between, the small things that make the biggest difference to someone's day: a yogurt handed over, treats packed up to take home, someone waiting patiently for the doors to open.

Whatever the news brings, Meir Panim keeps the tables set. Because of supporters like you, that never has to change.
