“If I had to summarise my experience in just one word, there is a standout winner for me: curiosity.”

In her blog, Churchill Fellow Clare Holdsworth reflects on her Fellowship to Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, exploring how lived-experience roles can support care-experienced young people to build long-term careers.

Having met organisations, researchers, and young people showing what is possible through this approach, Clare shares what she learned about curiosity, psychological safety, and creating opportunities that are genuinely supportive, meaningful, and shaped with young people 💛

What have Fellows been up to recently? 🌍

From Finland to Mexico, Churchill Fellows are connecting with people and organisations exploring some of today’s most pressing issues.

Craig Steele is in Oulu learning about youth-led research into AI, while Kielly Arbuthnot has started her Fellowship in Vancouver exploring Life Story Work for children in care. Shabana Kausar has been meeting feminist organisations tackling violence against women in Mexico, Irfan Zaman’s journey has started at Stanford, learning about civic education, democracy, and constructive dialogue, and Ellie Palma-Cass is setting off for Iceland and Vancouver to explore community-led crisis support and su***de prevention.

We love keeping up with Fellows as their journeys unfold 🙌

Yesterday, we launched A Whole Society Blueprint for Su***de Prevention at a reception in Parliament.

It was a valuable opportunity to bring together Fellows, partners, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss how learning from around the world can help strengthen su***de prevention across the UK.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our speakers: Liz Twist MP, Chair of the APPG on Su***de and Self-Harm Prevention; Neil Hudson MP, Shadow DEFRA Minister; Juliet Lyon, Advisory Council member and former Chair of Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody; and Churchill Fellows Nina Smith and Tim Woodhouse who shared how they are putting their ideas into action and reflected on the impact of the Fellowship on their work.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a thoughtful and constructive space for sharing insights and continuing the conversation.

📢 NEW REPORT

A Whole Society Blueprint for Su***de Prevention shares practical learning from Fellows who explored approaches to su***de prevention, intervention, and postvention around the world.

We’re launching the report today at a reception in the House of Commons, bringing together Fellows, partners, policymakers, and practitioners working to prevent su***de across the UK.

The report features insights and recommendations from 28 Fellows, with learning across healthcare, education, policing, prisons, domestic abuse, asylum systems, bereavement, community settings, media, and public spaces.

Together, their work shows that su***de prevention needs shared responsibility, practical action, and continued collaboration.

We hope this blueprint will help shape safer, more connected, and more compassionate systems in the UK.

What actually helps people build financial capability?

We spoke to Churchill Fellow Ali Zafar about his Fellowship exploring financial education in Singapore, Vietnam, and Bali, and how this learning is shaping his work to make financial capability more accessible.

Ali reflects on behaviour, trust, systems, and why the UK’s Financial Inclusion Strategy could be a key moment for change 💡

Help us improve our website ✨

We’re working to make the Churchill Fellowship website clearer and easier to use – and we’d love your help.

We’re looking for people to take part in a short online activity to help us understand how the website should be organised. It only takes around 10 minutes and you don’t need to know anything about the website – in fact, it’s better if you’re not familiar with it.

Take part here:

Thank you – your input will help us create a better experience for everyone who uses the site.

Please do share this with anyone who might be interested.

We’re nearing the end of interviews for this year’s Churchill Fellowship ✨

So far, we’ve heard from candidates across the UK sharing ambitious ideas and the change they hope to create through their Fellowship in areas from climate change to inclusive education.

Thank you to everyone who has made this stage possible – panellists, partners Mercers and John Armitage, and staff working behind the scenes. We’re looking forward to the final conversations next week 🙌
