This year, the tree in the Family Centre is decorated with heartfelt messages from Cardinal Hume Centre supporters. The music on the video is some of the children who come to our Centre, performing a Christmas song they've been practicing for months.

This Christmas, hundreds of families in Westminster will spend the holidays trapped in overcrowded or temporary accommodation. For many children, this isn’t just a short-term hardship – it can lock them into a lifelong cycle of poverty and homelessness.

Help us prevent homelessness before it starts. Donate today by visiting our website.

At our Advent Carol service, our chair of trustees Mark Hoban gave us food for thought on the theme of journeys taken at this time of year.

The journeys Mary and Joseph made for the census, seeking shelter before the birth of Jesus, and subsequently fleeing persecution by Herod. The Three Kings travelling with gifts for the new baby. And the journeys many of us will make over the Christmas period to meet up with family and friends.

Each of these journeys are journeys of hope and expectation.

As are the journeys of the children, young people and families who use the Cardinal Hume Centre. Many of those are also fleeing danger and travelling here in hope: seeking safety and security. The young people who have journeyed to our hostel and have found shelter and support with us: a safe space, escaping domestic abuse, or having left care. Families living in temporary accommodation come seeking space for their children to play or to do their homework.

But for them their journey to us is only part of a longer journey. Arriving at the Centre is not an end in itself, but a staging post: from a hotel room in Victoria or Paddington to a permanent home, moving from the hostel to a flat of their own, or getting the employment and welfare advice needed to secure their home.

This year, we directly supported 1420 clients including 710 families and 326 people under the age of 25.

If you would like to help us support more children and their families, please find out more here:

The Childhood Trust Big Give

04/12/2025

Our Christmas Big Give is now LIVE! Until midday on 9 December, all donations made to the Cardinal Hume Centre's Big Give page will be DOUBLED!

Your donation will go towards supporting families like Fatima's.

Fatima, her husband, and their three young children live in a cramped one-bedroom flat. There’s barely room for a table, let alone a place for the children to study or play. Their daughter, who is autistic, lacks the quiet space she needs to feel safe and calm.

But the Cardinal Hume Centre provides a lifeline. It is a place where Fatima’s children can relax, play, and learn, and where Fatima can access the advice and support she needs to improve her housing situation and work opportunities.

Hear Gabriele Boateng talk about the importance of the Cardinal Hume Centre's family services on families who may need additional support.

And if you can give to help our work, you can make twice the impact on a family facing homelessness and poverty today by donating via our Big Give page: https://lnkd.in/e5cTjZZJ
