Our coaches do more than deliver great sessions. They’re part of a community that’s always learning from each other 🙌

A group of our coaches came together at Spencer Cricket Club for our summer Coaches’ Professional Development Evening, combining learning with plenty of time to catch up over dinner.

The evening included a cricket-focused session led by Daisy Meadowcroft and Debbie Parker, exploring practical, game-based drills and new approaches to building team culture. 🏏

For Devalle, who joined DSC as a volunteer in 2023 and is now a qualified sports coach, it was a chance to sharpen his skills:

“I loved learning practical, game-based drills and fresh strategies for building strong team culture.”

A great reminder that our coaches are part of something bigger, and that we're stronger together.

Thanks to Marie Kasambalis for organising the evening, and to everyone who helped make it happen!

📣As our Community Clubs head into their summer break, we're celebrating awards for two more incredible members - this time from Club Sutton.

Congratulations to sisters Holly and Emily, who have both received Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards after being nominated by our Head Coach Debbie.

Their awards recognise the determination and perseverance they've shown throughout the year, demonstrating what can be achieved when disabled people have access to inclusive, welcoming opportunities to be active.

Receiving their awards, Holly said, "Thank you, I'm so happy," while Emily simply smiled and said, "Thank you."

Their mum also shared this message with our team:
"Thank you again for all you do; it's such a lovely group. We will miss seeing you there over the summer."

Congratulations, Holly and Emily. We hope you're incredibly proud of everything you've achieved ❤️

🎉 What a fantastic way to round off the term at Club Wandsworth!

As our Community Clubs prepare for a summer break, we're celebrating the people who make them such welcoming, inclusive places.

🌟 A huge congratulations to Bilal, who received an Outstanding Achiever Award from the Jack Petchey Foundation. Despite moving further away and facing a much longer journey, he rarely misses a session. His mum said, 'Bilal just loves it so much! He's always keen to take part, because he loves being with his friends.' What incredible commitment!

🎂 Our Head Coach Debbie was surprised with a beautiful cake to celebrate another brilliant year of inspiring, supporting and encouraging everyone at Club Wandsworth.

🎁 And every member took home a few celebratory gifts, including healthy snacks, stress balls and resistance bands, to keep active over the summer.

A huge thank you to the partners who make Club Wandsworth possible, including Go! London, Broomwood FC and Enable Leisure and Culture. Your support helps young disabled people access regular, inclusive opportunities to be active, build confidence and connect with others.

We recently joined Moving Fun for Everyone in Hackney – a brilliant half-day event giving local people the chance to try a range of inclusive sports.

Our specialist coach delivered fun, engaging cricket sessions to over 40 disabled children and young people, helping each person discover new ways to play and building confidence to get active.

Daisy Meadowcroft, Senior Partnerships Officer, said:
"It’s so special to be part of events like this. They create a space for disabled young people to try something new, meet others, and see what’s possible. The energy on the day really showed just how much demand there is for more local, inclusive opportunities like this."

A big thank you to Middlesex Junior Cricket Association (MJCA) for funding our involvement and helping make this possible.

🎾 As Wimbledon gets underway today, we're looking back at a special evening celebrating the people and partnerships making a difference beyond Centre Court.

Earlier this year, we joined the annual reception hosted by our friends at the Wimbledon Foundation, recognising the power of community sport across Merton and Wandsworth.

One of the evening's highlights was hearing Rachel Johnson share the story of her son, Temi.

Temi first joined a Disability Sports Coach session in 2018. Today, he's a paid sports coach, helping others discover the confidence, friendships and opportunities that inclusive sport can bring.

As the Championships begin, it's a reminder that the legacy of Wimbledon extends far beyond the tennis. It's about supporting opportunities for people to get active and feel part of the community all year round.

📣Important update about our Community Clubs

Due to the severe weather and high temperatures, several of our Community Clubs will be closed this weekend. In some venues, the heat presents a potential safety risk for participants, families and coaches.

Please check our website before travelling. Any clubs affected on Saturday 27 June will be marked as "Closed" when you try to book.

Disabled people are still twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people.

The latest research from Activity Alliance highlights the barriers that continue to make it harder for disabled people to be active, including access, affordability and feeling like they belong.

At Disability Sports Coach, we see these challenges every day. We also see what happens when those barriers are removed.

People feel more confident. New friendships are formed and grow. People learn new skills. And we see a thriving community!

"Our programmes show that demand is there. Disabled people want opportunities to be active, connect with others and be part of their communities. The challenge is not motivation, it's removing the barriers that continue to stand in the way. Progress is being made, but there is still much more to do to ensure everyone has equal access to sport and physical activity." 📣An announcement...

Applications are open for our Inclusive Activity Leaders (IAL) programme!

Now in its 4th year, IAL is delivered in partnership with Nike - and is changing lives.

IAL trains disabled and non-disabled people side-by-side to qualify as inclusive sports coaches.

Temi, who has cerebral palsy, has become a paid member of our coaching team since graduating. He received his IAL qualification from double Paralympic Gold medallist Richard Whitehead at Nike's London HQ - and went on to share his experiences at the Paris Paralympic Games!

This Volunteers' Week, we want to introduce you to two people who make everything we do possible 💙

Courtney volunteers with us because she knows first-hand how much sport can help. As someone with autism, she's experienced the difference it makes. And now she wants others to feel that too.

Salim joined us to learn more about adaptive sports and bring his own experiences to help people with various disabilities.

Together, they're part of a volunteer community that shows up every week to make sport accessible, welcoming, and joyful for disabled people across London.

£13,000 raised for inclusive sport 🙌

A huge thank you to Broomwood FC for supporting Disability Sports Coach through their recent Green And Black Ball fundraising event!

Three football coaches from Broomwood - James, Matteo and Stuart - visited our Community Club in Sutton to present a cheque and meet participants, volunteers and coaches involved in our sessions. They also got involved in some accessible tennis and basketball!

Support like this helps us create more opportunities for disabled people to be active, socialise, build confidence and feel part of a welcoming community through sport.

A special mention as well to Matteo, who has volunteered his time at DSC Club Wandsworth for the past four years❤️
