At Hestia we support adults and children in times of crisis. We deliver services across London and the surrounding regions, as well as campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect the people we work with. This includes victims of modern slavery, women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, young care leavers and older people. From giving someone a home, to helping them to

get the right mental health support, we support people at the moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond a crisis. We are supported by more than 460 volunteers across London who provide specialist skills such as art therapy, yoga, IT, gardening and cooking, as well as befriending and fundraising.

Today, thousands of young people received their GCSE results and will take their next steps towards college, training or work.

But for Adam*, getting to this day was far from straightforward.

While preparing for his GCSEs, Adam and his family had to flee domestic abuse. Moving to safety meant leaving behind his home, school and friends - and he faced the possibility of not being able to sit his exams at all.

With support from our Children and Family Workers, Adam was able to safely complete his GCSEs and continue with his plans for college.

For children staying in our domestic abuse refuges, these experiences can be life-changing. They create happy memories, build confidence, help children feel safe and hopeful about the future.

What happens when fleeing for safety puts your education at risk?

Tomorrow, thousands of young people across the country will receive their exam results.

For most, it will be a day filled with nerves, excitement and anticipation about what comes next.

But for some children, circumstances beyond their control can put their education - and their future - at risk.

While preparing for his GCSEs, Adam and his family had to flee domestic abuse and find safety. Suddenly, his home, school and plans for the future were all uncertain.

🤝We're proud to be expanding our partnership with North London NHS Foundation Trust to deliver integrated community support across all five of its boroughs.

We're now providing recovery-focused support in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington, helping people build confidence, reduce isolation, connect with their communities and work towards their recovery goals.

Building on our existing work in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, this expansion means more people across North London will have access to consistent, person-centred support close to home.

By connecting these services through a single provider, we aim to help more residents boost their confidence, self-esteem and motivation.

Last month, we celebrated South Asian Heritage Month with service users, volunteers and colleagues coming together to share traditions, stories, cultures and, of course, delicious food from across South Asia. 💜

From face painting, glitter tattoos and mandala art to beautiful henna designs, a community clothing stall, it was a wonderful day filled with creativity, connection, and celebration.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, colleagues and partners Tokio Marine and Arcadis for helping make the day so special.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the The Julia Rausing Trust for supporting our work and helping to make this celebration possible.
