Last weekend at Downside Abbey, the Choir of St Mary's Wimbledon performed a concert of sacred classics and sang at Pontifical Mass, with works by composers from Palestrina to Whitacre. It was a wonderful opportunity to make music in a historic venue with a great acoustic, despite the slightly temperamental organ! Thank you to Nigel Kerry and the Downside Abbey Festival for hosting us – we look forward to taking part again next year.

On Wednesday 8 July, it was a privilege for members of the Choir of St Mary's to sing at George Coates's funeral at Holy Trinity Sloane Square.

A stalwart friend, baritone and benefactor of the Choir, George filled his final year with travel, music and joie de vivre, including organising two wonderful gala concerts that collectively raised nearly £100,000 for cancer charities. His presence will be deeply missed – may he rest in peace.
