To honour those killed, the Index on Censorship team lit a candle to keep their memory alive.

Commemorations remain banned in . In , people have been arrested for paying tribute, and the June Fourth Memorial Museum in Los Angeles was vandalised just days before the anniversary.

Today, on International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in , we renew our call for the release of journalist and former Index colleague Andrei Aliaksandrau.

Jailed for supporting peaceful protesters, he remains imprisoned in a penal colony. He must be freed.

In solidarity with Andrei, Margaret Atwood, Thurston Moore, Nadya from P***y Riot and Sir Trevor Phillips come together to read a poem he wrote in July 2021 while in pre-trial detention.
