Index on Censorship A voice for the persecuted Index on Censorship is a nonprofit that campaigns for and defends free expression worldwide.

We publish work by censored writers and artists, promote debate, and monitor threats to free speech. We believe that everyone should be free to express themselves without fear of harm or persecution – no matter what their views.

Today, on International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in , we renew our call for the release of journalist and former Index colleague Andrei Aliaksandrau.

Jailed for supporting peaceful protesters, he remains imprisoned in a penal colony. He must be freed.

In solidarity with Andrei, Margaret Atwood, Thurston Moore, Nadya from P***y Riot and Sir Trevor Phillips come together to read a poem he wrote in July 2021 while in pre-trial detention.
