Last Thursday Barbara, Geoff and Rosemary started the day with a team meeting and then managed to complete five home assessments which enabled BOH to register more children for sponsorship.
Friday they met with the National Water Board engineer who visited the school and Children's Village (CV). BOH now has a plan to have piped treated water layed to both sites. What a blessing this will be.
BOH school is now fully staffed and the Headteacher is very happy with the latest results for Primary 7. The results were excellent with every child achieving a certificate.
Saturday they assessed a community for a Protected Spring, with their ever faithful water engineer. The photos show the dirty pool that the community are currently using for their water supply.
Monday they began their journey home from Rukungiri, slightly earlier than anticipated as the minibus was having an intermittent fault. This will give them enough time to get back to the airport. They are due home today, Thursday, and we wish them a safe journey and we thank them for all the hard work they have put in over the last three weeks, making such a difference to the children's and wider community's lives.

Barbara, Geoff and Rosemary enjoyed spending some time on Monday with the children at the village. They all had fun playing games including sack racing and balloon games. Then back to work with the completion of more paperwork.
The secondary students who live at the CV reported back to boarding school. They all squeezed into the minibus along with all their requirements, which are compulsory to take, loaded onto the roof rack. They were taken to register them for the new term.
The three then visited a sick child who had a very badly swollen knee. They took her to the hospital where she stayed with one of the staff to have x-rays etc. Sadly she has osteomyelitis which is a serious condition and will require an operation once they get the infection under control.
They visited several more families including a family who had taken in an abandoned baby boy. He was found naked in a field soon after he was born. Thankfully the family love him and he is now a very healthy 7 month old child. They will receive some support for milk, food and clothes etc.
Thank you again for your prayers and good wishes, they are very much appreciated.

It's been another couple of very busy days for Barbara, Geoff and Rosemary.
Wednesday morning started with a number of interviews for BOH staff. These went very well.
The afternoon was spent visiting a very vulnerable family with some essential items provided by their sponsor as per the photo. They then drove a very long distance to visit another family whose mother is unable to walk and the grandmother is very elderly. There are four children in the family and with the help of a kindly neighbour, made them more comfortable by providing food and bedding.
Thursday started with a problem with the minibus, once sorted they held a meeting with the Children's Village (CV) staff. Then followed a visit with a dad who had lost his leg in an accident. They have registered his two young daughters for sponsorship as he is trying to care for them alone.
On Friday, they met with each of the CV children. It was an opportunity to talk to them individually to find out how they are doing and to see if they have any worries. The four little ones all came in together and showed how well they can dance. They were very lively and happy.
They then visited the Twin house that BOHCM had built which is in the community and has two of the graduated boys living in it with a live in carer. The boys are doing well and the house looked clean and homely.
On Saturday the secondary school children went shopping for their boarding requirements, the list was very long. Once the shopping was done they all had a special lunch together at the CV followed by games outside. It appears that the bubble machine that the children love, is still working well.
Sunday, they prayed together then completed some more paperwork to help support and monitor all of the sponsored children. So far they have discussed 100 of them, another busy morning.
In the afternoon they went to the BOHCM Youth Sports session and delivered some kit donated by Enfield Rangers. The local children present were also given clothes.
There was no electricity at the hotel, but they put on the generator so they could have a very welcome shower.
Barbara, Geoff and Rosemary would like to thank you for your prayers and say they mean a lot to them so please keep them coming.

Barbara, Geoff and Rosemary arrived safely in Uganda. On Saturday 31st, they travelled down to Rukungiri where they visited the Children's Village (CV) arriving about 12 noon. They bought lots of pineapples on route, which the children and staff love, as you can see by the picture.
After spending some time with the children, they went to their hotel to unpack and plan their itinerary.
On Sunday morning they attended the English language service at church which started at 8.30. It was very lively and colourful.
The afternoon was spent at the CV playing table top games and colouring with the children, which they loved.
Monday was a very full day where they had a distribution of sponsors letters. Every child wrote to their sponsor with the help of translators. Mattresses and blankets were given to families who had not yet received one.
There was a severe thunderstorm which filled the rainwater harvesters, whilst they had to remain sheltered.
Tuesday they held the second distribution and completed more letter writing. The secondary children are able to write their own letters in English and the other children have help from the teachers from the BOH school. Both occasions started with lively singing and dancing.
This was followed by two home visits and some essential shopping for a family that will be visited on Wednesday.
I think all the sponsors will love receiving their letters from their sponsored child, I know I will.

On Tuesday a new site was assessed for suitability for creating a Protective Spring. BOHCM have agreed with the community that EBC will provide them with clean water. The community were very happy and celebrated with singing and dancing. Quite a number of people had been praying for this clean water, and their prayers have been answered.
On Wednesday we agreed to support a lady whose sister died giving birth to a baby boy. She is now caring for her sisters new baby and her three year old nephew. Another home assessment was carried out, but during the visit the minibus got stuck, with one wheel off the ground and tipping sideways. With several prayers and then rocks under the floating wheel the bus was moved onto flatter ground.
One of our Vocational Students Derick, doing motorbike mechanics came with his Grandma to explain that he is ready to be graduated from the sponsorship programme. He completes his training in March.
Thursday they undertook an assessment on behalf of TASO, the AIDS Support Organisation. The journey was over very rough roads. The goats at the CV are doing very well with new kids being born.
The day concluded with a staff meeting at the school where they have great exam results. The school is doing very well and benefiting with the support from BOHCM and free school meals which help so many children. We thank all of our supporters, without you this work wouldn't go ahead.
A final message for this visit to Uganda, One of the CV children was admitted to hospital last night, with a huge abscess on his face near his ear. He was picked up, with the house Aunt, who had stayed with him all night. The rest of the day was used to finish up some small jobs and to pack ready to leave. It is always so hard leaving the children.
Unfortunately we know we have an 11 hour wait at Nairobi airport, which will not be a comfortable stop.

Saturday afternoon was spent visiting the BOHCM Youth Sports Group, where they welcomed the donated equipment. The team were very quickly involved in teaching the children how to play cricket. The girls loved it as they don't always get to play football.
A visit was then made to a recently constructed protective spring. Kate was able to officially open it. Another site will be assessed next week as EBC are funding a protective spring for a community.
Later the Village children and staff were very happy receiving a bag of sweets each.
Sunday a group of children, who are about to start their first year in secondary boarding school, were taken shopping to purchase books, scholastic materials, soap, toilet paper, and sandals for after school. They also have to take their mattresses and blanket etc.
Thanks to your generous support these children completed primary school and are doing well by going to secondary school. This would never have been possible without your help.
Later in the day they all ate a special meal together followed by games in the garden. As usual the sack race was as popular as ever and balloons are still a big favourite.
Monday started with the children from the CV packing their metal boxes and other requirements, loading them onto the minibus. They all looked very smart.
Later in the day the team visited a family of two parents and five children. The attached photo shows Mum and Dad with three of the younger children. The two teenagers were out working on peoples land for a payment of food. A kind well wisher lets them live in the house in the photo free of charge. BOH registered one of the girls for sponsorship, knowing that this would benefit the whole family.
The last visit was to assess a site for a protected spring, which we didn't agree to construct. Another site will be assessed as soon as possible

Tuesday again was a very busy day. The team met with a large group of sponsored children. There was lots of singing and dancing, every child and guardian had the opportunity to write a letter to their sponsor. Each child had their photo taken and after 6 hours all was complete.
It was then back to the Children's Village (CV) where they all shared a lovely birthday cake, a real treat for the children.
Wednesday they met with the 2nd group of sponsored children who also wrote their annual letters for their sponsor.
A graduate was given a sewing machine as she had successfully completed her training. All sponsors letters have now been delivered.
The afternoon was spent visiting two homes for assessment, which were a long way off, and the roads weren't tarmac, which makes the trip more uncomfortable.
Thursday morning was spent having a staff meeting and in the afternoon another home was visited for assessment. A very vulnerable family has been registered for support.
Friday, they met with several families and did another two assessments. One family was in a very poor state, they gave them food and soap as the mother had nothing for the three little children. The baby looked quite happy despite the dirt. They will be seen again on Tuesday once a care plan has been decided on. Kate and Rosemary did a great job with various activities with the children.
Saturday will be a visit to the youth's sport group.

Barbara, Geoff, Kate and Rosemary travelled safely to Rukungiri, arriving at the Children's Village (CV) on January 24th after a few delays. They met with the children and then went onto the Bible Based Holiday Club (BBHC). They had a wonderful time with lots of children attending.
On 25th Barbara and Geoff spent time in the morning discussing 50 of the sponsored children, whilst Kate and Rosemary did a range of activities with the children. The afternoon was spent at the second
BBHC, which was a very joyful occasion with lots of singing and dancing, and the children learning about Jesus.
Monday the team visited a family that needed support. The mother is mentally ill and the father had died, the little boy is now at the CV to live, where the other children were eagerly waiting to greet him and make him feel welcome.
The team then met with some students that had graduated from BOH school. They were pleased with their leaving/results certificates.
Then it was on to another assessment where an elderly Grandmother is looking after her little niece whose parents have died. She has seven children in total to care for. We have registered them for support.
Finally it was on to Rukungiri town to buy some mattresses and blankets for tomorrows distribution, plus one goat.
Another busy day tomorrow.
