Young People Speak Out (YPSO!) is a program that empowers young people (aged 16 -24) from FGM affected communities with the skills to advocate within their local communities against FGM and early/child marriages. There are currently four areas in which the YPSO program functions: London, Middlesbrough, Bristol and Rochdale. Fuelled by the enthusiasm and momentum of the youth advocates YPSO is expa
nding its activities, and regional outreach through skills training, awareness raising, and building partnerships with community based organizations. Organise training for young people on leadership, campaigning, advocacy and gender based violence skills. Through these sessions we hope to collectively empower young people to create positive change in their communities.
2. Youth Advocates facilitate and organise sessions for other young people and their communities and so work as peer educators and peer mentors.
3. Public Awareness campaigns and events: which are always creative and great FUN!
4. Youth friendly FGM resources: creation of exciting media and resources providing FGM info and facts without the jargon. Our media and resources include ‘Think Again’ a short DVD on FGM, ISS Guide (information, services and support guide for young people) and 16 ways to help end FGM providing simple ways that everyone can help in the FGM campaign. Conduct Research: This is our way of getting young people’s voices, opinions and perceptions of FGM into the conversation. Research helps the FGM campaign as it is way to provide evidence that there is work that still needs to be done thus influencing policy, strengthening our work strategies and helping to secure funding.
