NMC Recordings is a registered charity record label devoted to the promotion of contemporary classical music from Britain and Ireland. The first organisation to be heralded with the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Leslie Boosey Award for “its outstanding contribution to the furthering of contemporary music in Britain”. NMC is a member of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and has a catalogue of over 250 albums encompassing established composers and emerging talent. NMC Recordings announces the release of Stone Trail, available on 13 November 2026, a new album of chamber works by Dobrinka Tabakova. 🎉

Performed by musicians from the Off the Beaten Path Festival and shaped by themes of landscape, memory and human connection.💙

Running through the programme is the image of stone: enduring, elemental and quietly expressive. 🪨 From mountain moraines and ancient mosaics to worn village cobbles, stone carries traces of time and human presence, preserving stories across generations. 🗻Throughout these works, places, materials and musical ideas persist, transform and re-emerge, connecting landscape with memory and shared experience.

On 30 October 2026, NMC Recordings will release Daniel Kidane’s ‘FAST/SLOW’, the acclaimed British composer’s debut portrait album. Bringing together six works written between 2016 and 2025, the recording features performances by the London Symphony Orchestra and Simon Rattle, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, BBC Singers, Present Music and the Carducci Quartet.

Exploring themes of memory, transformation, loss and renewal, ‘FAST/SLOW’ offers a compelling introduction to Kidane’s distinctive musical voice, showcasing the breadth and imagination of his writing across orchestral, chamber and vocal music.

OUT NOW on Birmingham Record Company

‘The Flowering Desert’ is an immersive cosmic opera, released to mark the 10 year anniversary of the discovery of the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system, 2025-2026. The opera follows the thoughts of an astrophysicist who explores the border between fact and imagination, and what it means to search the stars. With a tailor-made music of the spheres, the listener goes inside the mind of a scientist to become part of the TRAPPIST-1 system.

Infinite Opera have created this binaural recording of their fully live opera, first created and performed in Birmingham’s ThinkTank Planetarium in May 2022. It was inspired by the experience of Prof. Amaury Triaud, an astrophysicist at the University of Birmingham who was part of the discovery team of the TRAPPPIST-1 in 2015/16. Seeing planets in the goldilocks zone of a red dwarf star was a paradigm shifting event for the wider astrophysics community, presenting greater possibilities for life in the universe than had previously been explored. Since then, even more potentially habitable worlds have been discovered around red dwarfs, including K2-18b which has recently been observed to have markers of life in its atmosphere. Now, with the launch of the James Webb telescope, TRAPPIST-1 has again begun a site of research, in particular the planet TRAPPIST-1e, which also has the starring role of Pantele in The Flowering Desert.

We’re very pleased to announce a new opportunity to gain experience as a Trainee Trustee with NMC Recordings.

NMC exists to champion outstanding composers across the UK and Ireland, recording and distributing their music worldwide and amplifying its reach beyond live performance. Active since 1989 and constantly evolving, our label is a registered charity with a Board of Trustees.
The Board is responsible for the ongoing financial health of the charity and feeds directly into our planning, including our education work and generating new funding streams.

Our Trainee Trustee will have the chance to attend Board meetings, learn from our highly experienced Trustees, and contribute actively to our discussions about strategy and direction. You’ll also have opportunities to come along to our events, and receive training in arts governance skills.

Irish composer Andrew Hamilton, elected to Aosdána in 2024 and recipient of a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists, has developed an internationally celebrated body of work performed by ensembles including Crash Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

His ‘Proclamation of the Republic’ reimagines the Easter Rising declaration through obsessive repetition, fractured rhetoric and surging vocal momentum.

We’re raising £12,000 to record and release Josephine Stephenson’s powerful choral work ‘Into the Wreck’, inspired by Adrienne Rich’s ‘Diving into the Wreck’.

We’re thrilled that original commissioners Tenebrae will be returning for the recording, with celebrated actor Juliet Stevenson reprising her role as the Narrator.✨

Canadian-British composer Cassandra Miller has emerged as one of the defining musical voices of her generation, with a practice drawing on improvised singing, transcription, and transformation. 💛

Inspired by a remembered folk hymn and written especially for EXAUDI, ‘Guide’ becomes a radiant meditation on communal singing, freedom and the ecstatic physicality of the voice itself.
The full album, ‘Pocket Universe’ features works by Cassandra Miller, Andrew Hamilton, Leo Chadburn and Geoff Hannan, and captures the remarkable artistic relationships the ensemble has forged with some of the most distinctive compositional voices working today.✨

This Friday, NMC releases Cassandra Miller’s ‘Guide’ - the first single from EXAUDI’s upcoming album ‘Pocket Universe’, out 18 September.✨

Canadian-British composer Cassandra Miller has emerged as one of the defining musical voices of her generation, praised for music of striking emotional intensity and transformative beauty. 💛

Her work ‘Guide’, inspired by a remembered folk hymn and written especially for EXAUDI, becomes a radiant meditation on communal singing, freedom and the ecstatic physicality of the voice itself. 🎶
