Arnold Whittall (1935–2026)

NMC Recordings is deeply saddened to hear of the death of British musicologist Arnold Whittall at the age of 90. A longstanding supporter of NMC, Arnold was a hugely respected scholar, writer and champion of contemporary music, whose insight and generosity left a lasting impact on the musical community.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time.

🌟 OUT NOW - Seán Clancy: Where the Paths End 🌟

Where the Paths End is a new album by one of the most exciting Irish composers of his generation, Seán Clancy. Bringing together works written between 2013 and 2025, the album explores lived experience, repetition and loss through Clancy’s distinctive, deadpan aesthetic. Performed by the critically-acclaimed Plus-Minus Ensemble, it presents a focused body of work shaped by clarity, precision and emotional restraint.

🌟OUT NOW - Where the Paths End: Movement V 🌟

The new single from Seán Clancy’s upcoming album, performed by Plus-Minus Ensemble. 🍃

Drawn from a larger work translating walks through London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh into sound, Movement V reflects on change, memory, and the quiet act of moving through a city.

Ambient recordings and subtle repetition shape a piece that feels both intimate and distant. 🎶

Part of an album exploring lived experience, loss, and attention through Clancy’s distinctive, restrained language.

Michael Tilson Thomas (1944–2026)

NMC Recordings are deeply saddened by the passing of the celebrated conductor and composer Michael Tilson Thomas.

We were very fortunate to record with MTT on two occasions: Dominic Muldowney’s Oboe Concerto in 1994, and Robin Holloway’s Third Concerto for Orchestra in 1997. He is also represented in our catalogue through reissues of Simon Bainbridge’s Viola Concerto and several works by NMC Executive Producer Colin Matthews, originally released on Collins Classics.

A full article by Colin, reflecting on his time with Michael, can be found on our website or via the link in our bio.

Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.
