We were pleased to join Katie White OBE, Minister for Climate and Sky at The Conduit last night for the inaugural Pride in Our Planet Awards.

The awards seek to celebrate climate progress, and the communities and people already making change happen, and chimes well with the WI’s Fair Green Future campaign, calling for fair and people centred climate action.

Show the Love veterans Cullercoats WI (Northumberland Federation) kindly provided knitted green hearts as prizes for the award winners.

Ten years on, Jo Cox’s belief that we have more in common than that which divides us continues to inspire the women of the WI.

This month, the Jo Cox Foundation is marking Jo’s life, work and legacy with a fortnight of reflection, connection and action. Up and down the country WI members work every day to bring people together, to learn about and understand each other and to work together to improve our communities.

The WI is proud to support this important moment - and to continue to play our part in working together to build a more respectful, less lonely and better connected society.

Over 40,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals in the UK each year, and defibrillators can significantly increase the chance of survival, but only if they’re working.

This week is Check Your Defib Week, and we’re encouraging all defib Guardians to ensure their device is working and accurately listed on The Circuit. It could help save lives.

Not a defib Guardian? You can still take part in Check Your Defib Week by downloading our Defibrillator (AED) guide. It's full of practical information to help you raise awareness on the importance of defibrillators (AEDs) and includes clear, accessible guidance on AEDs and offers many ways for WI members to get involved to make a lifesaving difference.

You can find it here: https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/public-affairs-and-campaigns/news-and-actions/new-bystanders-can-be-lifesavers-defibrillator-aed-resource-guide

There’s something about this time of year that makes home feel like it’s spilling out into the garden 💚
Longer evenings, doors left open, and a slower pace outside whenever the weather allows.

Our garden stakes are an easy way to add a little character to pots and borders, while our cushions and throws bring comfort from indoors to out, ready for those in between moments when you’re not quite inside, not quite outside.

Small touches, made to be lived with and enjoyed.

We took part in The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out coming together to form The Big Do which ran from 5-8 June and was a chance to meet, eat and lend a hand locally in the UK’s biggest celebration of community.

We are delighted that many of our WIs took part – a Great Big Thank You to all our members and WIs which always get involved with supporting their communities and bringing people together.

Here is one example of a WI getting stuck into a Big Lunch event -

Marshfield Wi, Gwent Federation of WIs, held a Cake Fayre as part of The Big Lunch on Saturday 6th June. They teamed up with their local Coffee Shop - which is run by volunteers - to hold a Cake Fayre in the Village Community Playing fields.

Kate Tunnicliffe, Marshfield and District WI Secretary said; ‘Despite the awful weather, we braved the rain and the wind and had a tremendous support from the community in our Village. All our delicious homemade cakes sold, and we raised a tremendous £296 for St David's Hospice - a local charity.’

Let us know what you did for the Big Do.
