The latest episode of the BBC World Service podcast The Climate Question explores a growing challenge facing global sport: how extreme heat could affect the 2026 FIFA World Cup across the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Among the experts featured is Katie Gornall, BBC Sport Correspondent, whose reporting increasingly focuses on the intersection of sport, climate and sustainability - from the impact of extreme heat on athletes and fans to the environmental implications of expanding global tournaments.

We're delighted to welcome Katie to the Future of Sustainable Sport Summit at Earthfest 2026 on 25 June. Joining Pledgeball Founder & CEO Katie Cross and Content Creator Alexander Moneypenny for the session "Heat, High Stakes and Hauling at the World Cup", Katie will explore how rising temperatures and the growing scale of major sporting events are reshaping the future of sport.

From player welfare and fan safety to the carbon footprint of international tournaments, the discussion will examine the challenges facing sport in a warming world - and the innovations, policies and partnerships needed to build a more sustainable future.

Climate change is no longer just an environmental issue ; it is a public health emergency unfolding in real time.

At The Future of Climate & Health Summit, we’re bringing together clinicians, researchers, policymakers, innovators, and city leaders to explore one central question: how do we put health at the heart of climate action?

Across the afternoon at Impact Hub London, we’ll be diving into the most urgent intersections of climate and health:

πŸ”₯ Extreme heat & health inequality - who is most at risk as temperatures rise, and how do we protect communities on the frontline?
🌫️ Air pollution & urban health - who is paying the price in our cities, and what does effective clean air action actually look like in practice?
🌾 Food, water & climate resilience - how climate stress is reshaping food systems, affordability, and access, and what it takes to build long-term security.

From evidence to action, each session is designed to move beyond diagnosis into real-world solutions - connecting health systems, cities, businesses, and communities.

We’ll close with a focus on practical pathways for collaboration across sectors, because climate action is health action.

🎟️ Standard tickets are expected to sell out this week before moving to final release pricing - secure your place now. Register here: https://web-eur.cvent.com/event/896c1a28-d306-4741-895d-bd2c57e8783c/summary

🌍🀝 We're proud to partner with SkyNRG for Earthfest 2026, and to feature two of their leading experts across our Future of Transport & Energy, Future of Sustainable Sport, and Future of Music & Entertainment summits.

As one of the world's leading sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) companies, SkyNRG is helping accelerate the transition to lower-carbon travel and tackle one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise. Their work spans SAF production, corporate climate action, emissions reduction frameworks, and the market mechanisms needed to scale sustainable aviation globally.

✈️ At the Future of Transport & Energy Summit, Senior Manager Jez Lowe will explore "What's On The Horizon for Aviation: What Will It Take to Decarbonise Rail, Aviation and the Travel Industry?" Drawing on experience across both the development and commercialisation of advanced biofuels and SAF projects, Jez works with airlines, corporations, and industry stakeholders to turn aviation climate commitments into measurable action.

🎀 Director of Product Amelia Ransome will bring her expertise to both the Future of Music & Entertainment Summit and the Future of Sustainable Sport Summit. Having helped develop the SAF certificate emissions accounting mechanism through the World Economic Forum's Clean Skies for Tomorrow initiative, Amelia has been at the forefront of creating solutions that make sustainable aviation more scalable and accessible.

🎢 At the Music & Entertainment Summit, Amelia will discuss the growing challenge of fan travel and the opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of live events. At the Sustainable Sport Summit, she will lead a session on "Sustainable Travel in the Sports Industry (Freight, Fans & Corporates)," examining how sports organisations can address one of their largest sources of emissions while maintaining fan engagement and global reach.

πŸ’‘ These sessions will offer valuable insights into the future of sustainable travel, the role of innovation in decarbonisation, and the practical actions organisations can take today.

Don't miss out. Register for the summits at https://earthfest.world/register-summits/ to secure your place with these experts.

On World Environment Day, we’re revisiting voices from our EarthFest community.

At last year's Earthfest, we asked past attendees a simple question: what does sustainable living mean to you?

Their answers were grounded, honest reflections on everyday change and collective responsibility. Here’s to carrying those ideas forward, beyond a single day.
