This week marks the official start of our Basic Training Academy for our amazing volunteers joining us across London, Greater Manchester, and the West Midlands.

With a 100% turnout and incredible energy right from Day 1, we couldn't be more excited for the journey ahead. We can’t wait to see the growth, leadership, and lasting impact our mentors will bring to our partner schools starting this September.

💡 Our City Year mentors go above and beyond to create valuable opportunities for the students they support.

Back in July, our mentor Keira led the planning and delivery of a STEM event at our partner school, City of London Academy Islington, bringing together six guest speakers to inspire Year 10 pupils with their career journeys.

The impact?
📊 Over 80% of pupils found the talk engaging.
🚀 Nearly 20% felt more likely to pursue a career in STEM as a result!

A fantastic knowledge-sharing day at Bain Capital's Central London office! 🎉

City Year UK recently took 30 Year 10 students from Lilian Baylis Technology School to explore different career paths and hear from professionals across the business.

The students were brilliant: engaged, curious, and full of great questions. Bain Capital's team were incredibly welcoming, and a special thank you to Lucy Rippon and Una Mason for organising and hosting the day.

The session wrapped up with pizza and ping pong—the perfect end to an inspiring visit.

Interview skills day 💼✨

Back in June, experienced professionals from Bain Capital, Hayfin, Akin, Bank of America, FTI Consulting, Howden, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Mastercard, HarbourVest, and BKL helped our City Year mentors practise their interview skills, sharing feedback, tips, and confidence boosts ahead of their next steps.

Another incredible City Year comes to a close! 🎓✨

Last week, our 2026 cohort of City Year mentors graduated, and we couldn't be prouder of everything they have achieved over the past year.

Hearing their heartfelt reflections and seeing how their journeys challenged, motivated and helped them grow was truly inspiring. The impact they made in schools will last far beyond their year of service and the pupils they supported will remember the person who stood by them when they needed it most.

Congratulations to all our graduates, and a big thank you to our schools, partners, staff and everyone who helped make this year such a success. Here's to everything that comes next!

to Learning from Leaders: Bringing Your Authentic Self to Work ✨🌈

For Pride Month and beyond, we brought together an amazing group of professionals to talk openly with our City Year mentors about authenticity, inclusion and identity in the workplace.

A big thank you to Janani Ganesh (Vertex), Bob Hughes (Switchboard LGBT+ Support Line), Louise Johnston (Mastercard), Dr Stuart Hofer (Imperial College London / Brunel University of London) and Bethany Chambers (BKL) for sharing your stories and reflections.

From navigating what authenticity looks like day to day, to leading inclusively and overcoming challenges, our mentors took so much away from hearing about your journeys.

This evening, we kick off our 2026 graduation celebrations with a special ceremony for our Greater Manchester mentors, followed by the West Midlands tomorrow and London on Friday.

A huge shout-out to all our brilliant City Year UK mentors. You've completed a transformative year of service and youth mentoring, and you're leaving as confident leaders, ready for your next chapter.

Your dedication, energy and commitment to your students have made a lasting impact on their lives and your school communities.

We are delighted to announce that Victoria Head will join City Year UK as our new Chief Executive Officer, starting in early August.

Victoria joins the charity at an exciting point in our journey, bringing more than 25 years of leadership experience across education, employability, skills development, youth services, and the social impact sector.
