This Refugee Week, we celebrate the courage of....

๐Ÿ’œ Women who leave everything behind to seek safety for their children.
๐Ÿ’œ Women who speak out against the injustice they have experienced and demand change.
๐Ÿ’œ Women who live proudly as q***r women, despite the fear and danger they have been made to feel.
๐Ÿ’œ Women who rebuild their lives, on their own terms.

This week, we celebrate the courage, strength, and resilience of every refugee woman.

๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŽ‰ Last Saturday, we were at the Ben & Jerry's Festival for a fun day of conversation, community, and connection. โฃ

Refugee women from our network led three activities to build understanding of the asylum system, to share solidarity, and to raise awareness of what it means to seek safety.โฃ

During a time of increasing hostility towards people seeking safety in the UK, making meaningful connections and having curious conversations with the public was more important than ever.

We had the best day. Huge thank you to everyone who visited our stall and took part in our activities!

Today is the first day of Refugee Week.

This week and every week, we stand alongside refugee women - championing their strength, amplifying their voices, and keeping their lived experiences at the heart of everything we do.

Today and every day: Refugees welcome! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ

When hate feels loud, we choose to celebrate love ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŽ‰This week, weโ€™re thrilled to celebrate that Jomiloju, a woman in our network, has finally received her status after spending a long time in limbo.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ โ€œI fled my country with my kids for safety. All I wanted was a better life for my children away from violence...โ€

โ€œIt was a very long and rough road since I arrived in the UK... Until a friend introduced me to WRW and I started attending activities with them 3 times a week, my life changed. Their support and company brought a smile to my face.โ€™โ€™

โ€œWRW was a lifeline for me, and knowing that I can turn to them whenever I'm stuck gives me great relief at all times.โ€™โ€™

โ€œI have finally received my status after a long time. It's still like a dream to me, and I keep asking myself if this is really happening after all the uncertainty, frustration, and struggles.โ€

During a week where hate and hostility dominates, it is more important than ever to celebrate great news. Jomilojuโ€™s news reminds us why this work matters and why we do what we do.

When the noise of hate and fear fills the air, we turn to our community for strength, resilience, and hope.

Solidarity will always prevail. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿšจ Statement regarding the violent unrest:
Everyone should feel safe in our communities

We wholly condemn the horrifying stabbing that took place on Monday in Belfast, and our thoughts are with the person harmed and their loved ones. We also wholly condemn the racism, violence and unrest that has followed, which has used this attack to fuel and justify anti-migrant and racist violence which has targeted families in their homes and people on our streets.

Violence like this doesnโ€™t exist in a vacuum. It has been legitimised by certain politicians and elements of the media that repeatedly scapegoat members of our society. When this dehumanising, divisive and racist rhetoric comes from those in power, it doesnโ€™t just give cover to violence, it emboldens it. And it has real life consequences โ€“ for people seeking safety in the UK, for migrant communities, for people of colour, and for all of us.

This must end, now.

The Government must show the moral courage and vital leadership to reject this politics of division, to reject dog-whistle tactics, and to reject the dehumanisation of our communities. The Government must stand up for people seeking safety in the UK, for migrant communities, and for all of us โ€“ our society depends on it.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโ€œMy name is Olubunmi. Iโ€™m a bisexual woman, a daughter, a mother, a writer, and Iโ€™m still here.โ€

This Pride Month, one of our Rainbow sisters, Olubunmi, has shared a powerful reflection on what she is celebrating: the sheer existence of q***r women everywhere.

In her words, we are chanting loud and proud:
๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ We are still here as LGBTQIA+ communities.
๐Ÿ‘ฃ We are still here as people seeking safety.
๐Ÿ’œ We are still here as women.

This Pride Month, we honour our stories, our strength, and our right to exist - unapologetically and proudly ๐ŸŒˆ

๐ŸŒˆ It's Pride month, which means we are officially counting down to Pride in London!

Rainbow Sisters - our solidarity group for LGBTQ+ women seeking safety in the UK - have started making placards to carry in the parade.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ "Human rights are NOT a matter of opinion!"
๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ "Everyone is welcome here. United in Pride."
๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ "Equality hurts no-one!"

While we look forward to Pride every year as a day of joy, celebration, and togetherness, Pride is also an important protest and a powerful reminder that LGBTQ+ rights must be protected.

We will be marching with resistance, courage, and hope. We hope to see you there!

๐Ÿšจ Already, children seeking safety in the UK are regularly wrongly assessed as adults by immigration officials.

This causes huge harm and means children donโ€™t receive the support they need.

Plans to assess age using AI are deeply concerning and raise huge ethical questions.

The Home Office says the tool will make it easier to identify adult migrants "attempting to game the system".
