🥌 "When I play sports, I feel strong."

For many girls, trying a new sport is the first step towards believing in themselves. With support from our Sports Giving Circle to Kız Çocuklarına Destek Derneği via SAHADAYIZ Association, girls are introduced to floor curling - building confidence, teamwork and belonging.

Curiosity quickly becomes a space where girls discover new skills, support one another, and enjoy playing together.

Thanks to your support, more girls are discovering the power of sport.

🎬 Watch. 💛 Share. ✨ Support more children to access sport.

The final chapter of our Hatay Study Trip took us to inspiring spaces where children, women, and young people come together to learn, create, and feel supported. 💙

Over our last two days, we met with:
✨ Hatay Surf Centre (Hatay Sörf Merkezi)
✨ Samandağ Women's Solidarity Association (Samandağ Kadın Dayanışma Derneği)
✨ Hatay Mor Dayanışma Association
✨ Ali İsmail Korkmaz Foundation (Ali İsmail Korkmaz Vakfı)
✨ Füsun Sayek Development and Education Association (Füsun Sayek Sağlık ve Kültür Etkinlikleri)

Our journey took us from the coast to community centres:
🏄 In Samandağ, children are discovering sport and building confidence through a rights-based surfing program by the sea.
💜 At the Samandağ Women's Life Centre, local groups are standing alongside survivors of gender-based violence, people with disabilities, and caregivers to offer legal guidance and solidarity.
🌱 At the new ALIKEV Mekan, built with after the earthquakes destroyed their original space, young people have a vibrant new home to connect and grow.
🧵 In Arsuz, we visited the Arsuz Life Centre to see the Weaving Lives project in action—helping women gain financial independence by keeping Hatay’s historic silk weaving tradition alive, alongside workshops and choirs for over 400 local children.

Whether through crafts, music, sport, women's rights, or youth spaces, every single organisation we visited is leading recovery from the ground up.

We leave Hatay deeply inspired, with stronger partnerships and an even greater commitment to standing alongside these remarkable communities.

A heartfelt thank you to all our grantee partners for welcoming us, to our donors who joined this journey, and to Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı for making this trip possible! 💙🙏

3,5 years after the 6 February earthquakes, we're back in Hatay.💙

Every time we visit, this city tells a different story.

Two months after the disaster, it was unimaginable heartbreak. Last summer, we saw communities finding ways forward. This week, we returned with some of our donors to catch up with our incredible grantee partners and see how their work is growing.

On our first day, we met with:
🔷 Defne Women's Cooperative (Defne Kadın Kooperatifi)
🔷 Türkiye Sustainable Humanitarian Aid and Education Foundation - TURSIYEV (Türkiye Sürdürülebilir İnsani Yardım ve Eğitim Vakfı)
🔷 Hatay Nature Conservation Association (Hatay Tabiatı Koruma Derneği)
🔷 Hatay Symphony Orchestra Culture and Art Association (Hatay Akademi Senfoni Orkestrası)

Our conversations covered so much ground:
• Women turning invasive plants into handcrafted goods 🌾
• Protecting local mountain gazelles and striped hyenas 🦌
• Rebuilding a women-led cooperative and empowering women 💜
• Helping children find their voices and bring people together through music 🎻

While each organisation works in a different space, they all share the same heart: they are deeply rooted in their communities, creating opportunities where they’re needed most.

Being on the ground keeps us connected. It helps us see how needs evolve and reminds us of the power of community-led recovery.

Thank you to our donors for making this visit possible! 💙🙏

Our Deep Poverty Action Fund campaign has exceeded its target, raising over £62,000. 🎉

🔹Thanks to everyone who donated, fundraised, and shared — the full amount will be granted to Açık Alan Derneği - Derin Yoksulluk Ağı (Open Space Association - Deep Poverty Network), which supports children and families experiencing deep poverty in Istanbul.

The grant will reach 35 households for over a year, including families caring for children with special needs, people with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

Through financial assistance, food aid, psychosocial support, and help accessing healthcare, special education, and social services, the project will meet urgent needs while reducing barriers to essential services.

The association will also document the challenges these households face to advocate for better responses to the links between poverty and health.

💙 A special thank you to our supporter Zeynep Bilen Gecili, whose campaign raised an outstanding £28,250, focused on children with complex health and developmental conditions — including autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, and chronic illnesses — helping them access special education, healthcare, medication, and nutritional support.

Thank you to everyone who made this grant possible. 🙏🏻

Every home visit is a reminder that care goes beyond treatment—it also means making sure no one faces Alzheimer's or dementia alone. 💙

Through the first grant awarded by our Ageing and Caregiver Support Fund, the Alzheimer's Association of Turkey (Türkiye Alzheimer Derneği) continues to provide home-based support for people living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, as well as the family members who care for them.

Here's what has been achieved so far:
🏠 In May, nurses carried out 12 home visits.
💙 In June, 14 families received home nursing support, while 19 families benefited from psychological support.

Behind these numbers are real moments of relief - a nurse checking in on a person living with dementia, a psychologist listening to a caregiver who rarely gets the chance to be heard.

By bringing this support directly into people's homes, the project is improving the quality of care while easing the emotional burden that so many family caregivers carry every day.

This is exactly the kind of community-based, dignity-centred support we hoped this fund would make possible.

A special thank you to our supporter, Selene Çakmak Rathee, whose fundraising initiative in memory of her dear father, Atila Çakmak, made the launch of this fund possible. 🌿

And thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this first grant a reality. Your generosity is helping bring compassionate, community-based care to older people and their families. ✨

Freshwater ecosystems in Hatay are under growing pressure from invasive water hyacinth, which has spread across the Asi River and Kırıkhan Gölbaşı Lake. By covering the water's surface, the plant reduces oxygen levels, harms aquatic life, and threatens local biodiversity.

Our grantee partner, Türkiye Sustainable Humanitarian Aid and Education Foundation - TURSIYEV (Türkiye Sürdürülebilir İnsani Yardım ve Eğitim Vakfı), is helping turn this environmental challenge into an opportunity.

As part of a broader initiative with Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, invasive water hyacinth is removed from the waterways and repurposed into handmade products instead of being treated as waste, creating sustainable income opportunities based on circular economy principles. 🌿

With our support, 50 women are receiving training to transform the harvested plants into handcrafted products, enabling them to develop new skills, generate income, and strengthen their economic resilience while contributing to the restoration of their local environment.

Together with The Conservation Collective, Turquoise Coast Environment Fund, Turkish Philanthropy Funds, and Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı, we are supporting projects that bring together environmental sustainability and community-led recovery in southern Türkiye following the earthquakes. 🙏🏻

In Arsuz, Hatay, a life centre beside a river has become something much more than a venue. It is a place where children discover creativity, women build solidarity, and a community continues to heal after the 2023 earthquakes. 🌿

In our latest interview, Füsun Sayek Sağlık ve Kültür Etkinlikleri shares how the Arsuz Life Centre brings together creative workshops, a children's choir, a weaving workshop, and community events — reaching children, women, and young people who have limited access to cultural and social opportunities.

With support from our Regional Recovery Support Programme, the association is expanding its reach into rural villages and strengthening local solidarity networks. 🤝

📚 Supporting teachers to create safer, more inclusive classrooms

Teachers in earthquake-affected communities are coming together to learn, collaborate and develop practical solutions for their classrooms.

With our grant support, Teacher’s Network (Öğretmen Ağı) recently brought together 24 teachers in Gaziantep for its Creative Problem Solving Programme. 🤝🌱

Together, they explored how schools can better support children's understanding of personal boundaries and bodily autonomy.

Working alongside their students, teachers turned ideas into action. Inspired by Mino's Song, children used AI tools to write songs about personal boundaries, which were played during lessons and school breaks.

The programme also produced practical solutions for students, teachers and families, which will be shared with educators across Türkiye. Beyond the workshops, teachers continue to exchange ideas and support one another through a growing local network.

Thank you to our donors for making this work possible.💙

⚽💛 Removing barriers, creating opportunities for girls in sport

In Antalya, girls are gaining access to football, sailing, climbing and floor curling through the Pusula / Compass programme by the Support for Girls Association (Kız Çocuklarına Destek Derneği).

In our interview, the organisation shares how practical support — from equipment and facilities to training opportunities — is helping more girls participate in sport and build confidence, skills and community.

Supported by Türkiye Mozaik Foundation’s Sports Giving Circle, the programme is strengthening local ecosystems where girls can thrive in sport. The grant is administered by Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı and implemented with SAHADAYIZ Association for Justice and Rights in Sports.
