Lest We Forget.
Three simple words that carry so much meaning, and three words that sit at the very heart of everything we do at the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans.
We are privileged to help veterans return to the places where history was made, ensuring their service and sacrifice are never forgotten. Just as importantly, we hope that through our work we inspire younger generations to honour, respect and learn from those who served.
Recently, we received the following message from a remarkable young woman, and it reminded us exactly why preserving these stories for future generations is so important.
During the D-Day commemorations in Normandy, Tillie Baker, a student ambassador (“NextGen”) with the Best Defense Foundation, met many of our veterans and volunteers at Pegasus Bridge. Deeply moved by the experience, she later wrote to us expressing her admiration for the veterans and the work of the charity.
Among the moments she witnessed was George Rose insisting on being taken to meet American Korean War veterans PhM3c Floyd Brantley and Col. (Ret.) Frank Arthur Athanason — a wonderful example of the friendship and respect shared between veterans from different nations and generations.
Tillie also kindly offered her support as a volunteer and asked if she could write to the veterans we support so she can learn from their experiences and help ensure their legacies are passed on to future generations.
Messages like this give us great hope. They show that the stories, values and sacrifices of our veterans continue to inspire young people today, ensuring that their service will never be forgotten.
Thank you, Tillie, for your thoughtful words, your enthusiasm and your commitment to remembering those who served.
