TRF The organisation that represents responsible trail riders. Preserving historic, public rights of way for the benefit of all user groups. Where Can You Do It?

Working to ensure local councils and highways authorities carry out their statutory rights of way duties. Trail Riding – What Is It ? For the benefit of readers not familiar with the activities of the Trail Riders Fellowship, trail riding is exploring the ancient unsurfaced network of roads. Trail riding can reasonably be described as
‘pony trekking on motorcycles’

We ride only on those routes –

public roads – which we are legally entitled to use, preferring to avoid tarmac surfaces where possible. Because these routes are legally ‘carriageways’, just like tarmac roads, we make sure that our machines are legal too, with number plates, silencers, tax and insurance, just like any other road going machine. The only difference is that our models are usually chosen for lightness and simplicity, and equipped for rough going rather than motorways. Trail riding also tests your ability at map reading and much of the pleasure of the hobby is the careful planning of a route from one point to another, using as many unsurfaced roads as possible. Experience at riding on such ‘Green Roads’ also pays dividends in improving overall riding ability, as you soon appreciate the importance of precise throttle control and careful braking on slippery surfaces. The simple answer to this question is this: on any public carriageway, which is not tarred or concrete. On sealed surfaces, of course, you can also ride your legal motorcycle without breaking the law, but it only really counts as trail riding when you are off-tarmac. Just to be clear, please note that we never say off-road, as the routes we use are roads in every sense, they just don’t always look like roads to the ordinary motorist, or walker.

The TRF were part of a united motorcycling lobby which included the National Motorcyclist Council (NMC), Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), British Motorcycling Federation (BMF), Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM), Vintage Motorcycle Club (VMCC), National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) and Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) to meet with Richard Holden Shadow Secretary of State for Transport to discuss a range of motorcycling issues, including access. We look forward to further discussions with Mr Holden to advance the interests of all motorcyclists and enable society to truly recognise the social, economic, environmental and health benefits of motorcycling.

For the over 55 years the TRF has been conserving Green Roads and motorcycling on them. The not-for-profit organisation has invested millions of pounds into protecting the future of trail riding, funded through membership. As part of a host of benefits which also includes 4 magazines a year and exclusive riding access, members get access to the Green Road Map which shares details of over 10,000KM of Green Roads including details, photos and videos of individual roads. The big reveal on the new KTM 390 Enduro R here. It's quite a specification and a stunning price. We're starting to think the cats outnumber the pigeons in the market place now... So, what do you guys think?

What is immediately obvious is that this is a trail bike, not an enduro (despite the name), nor an adventure bike. It’s definitely not an EXC with full road kit. It’s a package designed for road and trail, with specification to suit. What does that mean? In short:
