🖤Today is National Threatened Species Day. On this day in 1936, the last know Thylacine (Tasmanian tiger) passed away. Today, we remember that loss to make sure other species do not face the same fate.
Sadly, when we think of endangered wildlife, the biggest names usually grab the spotlight. But right under our noses, many lesser-known species are quietly slipping away, including some of the Thylacine's closest living relatives.
Take the Eastern quoll. While the Tasmanian devil gets a lot of global attention, this beautifully spotted carnivorous marsupial is already extinct on the Australian mainland. Tasmania is its very last stronghold, yet its numbers here continue to drop due to feral predators, habitat loss, climate change and road strikes.
Other vulnerable locals like the Spotted-Tailed quoll also fly under the radar, facing a silent battle to survive in our changing forests.
Devils@Cradle is proud to be a part of vital, nation-wide conservation projects like the Tasmanian Quoll Conservation Program and the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program, working to protect these unique native carnivores.
We can't do it alone...
🐾Help us shine a light on these amazing Aussie battlers. Learn about them and share their stories and help us protect them
🐾Drive with care: Slow down on the roads at night when these nocturnal hunters are active.
🐾Support your local sanctuaries: Back the breeding and research programs keeping them alive.
Every species plays a vital role in our ecosystem. We lost the Thylacine, let's not lose our last living links to them as well.
