A few more photos of our Assumption celebrations, of Sr Danguole's Assumption tart 😊
It is debated when Assumption tart was first made, but this jam tart (always with apricot jam & cut into triangles - no one knows why) is part of Assumption festivities in convents & schools around the world. The story is that the first sisters were so poor this was all they had for celebratory dessert - but it has lasted through 175 years or so!

On this feast of the Assumption, Assumption sisters from the 3 communities in England came together to celebrate, with mass and a lovely lunch in St Catherine's community. We prayed for Sr Chantal and Sr Irene of our province of Europe who died yesterday, and rejoiced in the promise that they had gone home to God on the feast of the Assumption.

🌿 The Feast of the Assumption of Mary 🌿

Today we celebrate with great joy the Feast of the Assumption of Mary — a mystery at the heart of our identity and vocation as the Religious and friends of the Assumption.

The mystery of the Assumption is not simply about explaining how Mary’s passage to the fullness of God took place. It invites us to contemplate its meaning for our own lives.

“The mystery of the Assumption is our final destiny and the beacon that shows us the way.”

Mary, our companion on the journey, teaches us to rise above what is not essential, to transform our old habits and useless paradigms, and to place our thoughts and affections in God.

The Assumption challenges and inspires us to joy and hope. Mary already lives what each of us pursues throughout our existence: fullness and happiness shared with all in God.

On this feast, may Mary help us live processes of conversion, transformation, and humanisation, becoming ever more a “faithful image of Christ” and witnesses of hope, peace, and life in our world.

🙏 Happy Feast of the Assumption!

✨ Assumption of Mary Mini Retreat ✨

Young Adults gathered at St Mary’s University Chapel in Twickenham for a mini retreat in preparation for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. 🙏

We began with a shared lunch and midday prayer, before Sr Christine R.A. led us in an inspiring reflection on the Assumption of Mary. She invited us to pause and consider who Mary is to each of us personally, before sharing our thoughts and reflections in small groups.

We ended the day with some social time at the Sisters’ Convent, enjoying each other’s company — and of course, some ice cream! 🍦😊

As the Feast of the Assumption approaches, we invite you to pause and ponder: Who is Mary to you?

At that time: Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, ‘Rise, and have no fear.’ And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, ‘Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.’

What a wonderful afternoon at Milleret House as we welcomed students from an Assumption School in Mexico! 🇲🇽💜

It was a joy to see the young people spending time with the Sisters, sharing stories, experiences, and the spirit of the Assumption family that connects us across the world.

Sisters from the Kensington community reflected on their own experiences of teaching in Mexico, exchanging favourite memories and hearing about the lives and stories of the young people today.

A beautiful reminder that, no matter where we are in the world, we are united by our shared Assumption mission.
