This summer Fences & Frontiers is 10 years old! More to come on that very soon, stay tuned...

Marking the milestone, we've updated our brand with a cleaner logo, refreshed colour palette, and new set of icons; all inspired by our original designs, but evolved to feel more professional, accessible, and consistent across everything we do.

It’s the same spirit and values, with a lick of paint to carry us into the next decade.

A huge thank you to our designer Daisy Heather, who offered her amazing skills, time (and patience) pro bono for this project. For an organisation of our size, having people generously offer their skills in this way can make a huge difference!

Please check out Daisy's work here: www.daisyheather.com

It may take a little bit of time to roll the new brand out across all channels etc, but feel free to let us know if you see a legacy logo lurking anywhere!

Yesterday, we enjoyed a wonderful interactive banner-making workshop with artist Marcus Orlandi as part of our 'Hidden Voices' project with the Royal College of Nursing Libraries / Royal College of Nursing

Inspired by a single word that reflected our journeys.as migrants or simply through life. we spent the afternoon drawing, cutting, and sewing together.

It was a beautiful way to share our stories, creativity, skills, and kindness with one another.

The result was a collection of incredible banners, each carrying its own meaning, but also working as a stunning piece of art collectively.

You'll have the chance to see these banners as part of a Refugee Week exhibition:

We can't wait to see them on display ourselves!

This week, we were honoured to attend the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of the contribution Fences & Frontiers makes to our community.

It was a privilege to spend the afternoon alongside so many other inspiring individuals and charities from across the country, and to represent the amazing participants, volunteers, and supporters who make our work possible.

For the past decade, we have worked to make the UK a more welcoming and inspiring place for refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives. Through walks, cultural activities, and creative workshops, we offer people an escape from daily fears, a sense of community and hope for their future.

At a time when hostility towards refugees and asylum seekers continues to grow, creating a community where people can feel safe, welcomed, and hopeful is more important than ever. In this context, having our work recognised by His Majesty, The King takes on a particular significance.

Huge congratulations to our treasurer, Ben , who took on a sweltering today - his first marathon!

Not only did he clock up an incredible time, but he’s also raised over £3,000 to help keep our activities on the road.

There’s still time to show your support and celebrate his achievement with a donation:

Last weekend, our Never Walk Alone group visited Hampstead Heath, where we were joined by conservation and nature experts from Hogwatch and Heath Hands. Together, we learned about hedgehog habitats, hibernation, and the wider wildlife that calls the heath home.

We checked wildlife cameras, spotted a range of animals, and learned about ways to help make spaces more hedgehog-friendly. It was a fantastic opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of flora and fauna right on our doorstep here in London—it’s safe to say we’ll all be seeing our streets and parks a little differently now.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers - Maryam (taking the reins for the first time this week), George, and Marjan - as well as our partner organisations for making the day so special.

This Sunday (26th April) our treasurer, board member and long-term volunteer, Ben, is running the London Marathon for Fences & Frontiers.

Ben is incredibly close to hitting his £3,000 target for our 10th anniversary - already an amazing achievement. This is his first ever marathon - let's carry him over the finish line! https://mailchi.mp/f4e9fdfdb607/springintoaction26-18160672

This Sunday our families took a trip to the . Here we discovered how different materials move and behave, and took part in a live show about how  fire and forces shape the world around us. At the end of the day the children had the chance to design and test their own aeroplanes, experimenting with air forces and seeing how high they could make them fly.It was a brilliant day filled with curiosity, creativity and fun!

Thank you to all of our families, volunteers and or making this possible..

This evening we were lucky enough to take part in a creative writing workshop with the incredible poet - part of the 's Moved to Care project.

With Romalyn's guidance, we explored new ways to express our journeys, thinking about the people and places we’ve left behind, and the tastes, smells, and sights that stay with us.

We shared the foods we miss from home—gurasa, injera, spiced stews, and citrus bites—and the loved ones who cooked them. There was real joy and sadness in these reflections, especially when thinking about those we miss, and those we may not see again.

This workshop was far more than a writing exercise - I helped us learn about ourselves and each other. Bringing us closer as a group!

A big thank you to and for including us in the project. We look forward to working together again in the future!

On Saturday, we took 8 families on an unforgettable trip to the Cutty Sark!

The children discovered what life was like for sailors, and the kind of work they did aboard this famous tea clipper - as it transported tea from China to the UK!

They also learned how to anchor a ship and why this is so important to keep it safe and steady.

To make the day even more special, we all took part in an Easter egg hunt. The children had so much fun searching for and finding hidden eggs around the site!

We would up our day by visiting the Queen’s House, where everyone admired its beautiful design and learned about the famous Tulip Stairs—the first geometric spiral staircase in England.

A big thank you to and for your support in making such a magical day for our adventurers!
