After numerous warnings during the referendum campaign that implementing Brexit will be like "removing eggs from the omelette", 10 years later we see exactly that. The Home Office is about to launch crackdown on some pre-settled status holders who may have abused the system. The problem? A binary, yes-or-no decisions will be based on something not intended for that purpose: travel patterns and even cheap ticket bookings. That potentially creates new problem to solve another. Maybe NOT creating them in the first place, by NOT ending the freedom of movement, would have been a better choice?

Iceland and Norway, two countries that have applied for EU membership in the past and subsequently changed their minds, may join very quickly if they chose to. “They’re basically 80 percent there”, said EU diplomat. And the appeal of EU membership is growing.

Donald Trump’s distancing from Europe means richer countries now want EU membership for protection in a more fragile world.

We were back on the street in Wandsworth today, or by the Southfields Station to be precise. We have found one single person who felt that her life has been improved by Brexit. That's the pattern we're seeing in every Eurometer we make for years now! On the other hand, we have heard stories of people more afraid to travel abroad, cautious to invite family members to visit them due to the EU Entry/Exit System or even feeling the burden of being "third-country national" while on vacation in Europe. There was a strong feeling among people that these consequences are most often treated as a political taboo. At least they have Fleur Anderson representing them!

Today European Movement in Wandsworth and Merton held the AGM and meeting with our guest and Vice-President Molly Scott Cato MEP. Molly encouraged us to be proud of our European identity and explained some of many reasons for it. European countries occupy most of the top 20 most developed, desired and respected countries in the world. It is thanks to their common European values. There isn't - and never was - a conflict between the European and British identity.
After the discussion we celebrated the noble and iconic British tradition of raffle. Some lucky members won European food and souvenirs that, somehow, made their way through Dover. 🤭
