Street Child Our purpose is to see all children safe, in school and learning. We are Street Child. We believe every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn.

Currently, 125 million school-aged children are out of education worldwide. Millions more children are in school but failing to learn. Street Child believes that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step that can be taken towards the elimination of global poverty.

The sun was out, the beers were cold, and the 2026 didn't disappoint.🍻☀️

A huge thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to Wimbledon Common to run with a purpose and raise funds to help Street Child to keep children safe, in school and learning.

After last week's heatwave, we're grateful that London cooled off just in time to make for a perfect day to run with a cold beer!

Global education funding is heading in the wrong direction. The latest GEM Report Unesco from UNESCO shows it's set to fall more than predicted.

Some of the world's biggest donors, including the UK, US, Germany and France, cut aid in 2025. The impact will be felt hardest by the most vulnerable children. In countries like Liberia and Afghanistan, where Street Child works alongside local partners, the gap is already widening.

With Andy Burnham now in No. 10 and off to a busy start, Street Child joins fellow Send My Friend to School Coalition members in calling on the new Prime Minister to make education for children around the world a defining part of Britain's international agenda.

For 25 years, our coalition of NGOs, education unions and thousands of young people has called on UK governments to protect and strengthen support for global education. The public agrees: most Brits back UK aid spending that helps children everywhere access quality education.

Here's what we're asking:

1️⃣ Put education at the heart of UK development and restore UK leadership abroad

2️⃣ Maintain the UK's £430 million pledge to the Global Partnership for Education

3️⃣ Listen to young people and renew support for global citizenship education

4️⃣ Back reforms to help countries grow their own domestic education budgets

Access to education starts long before a child walks into a classroom.

Poverty is one of the biggest barriers to education. That's why our Family Business for Education programme helps parents and caregivers build sustainable small businesses, so school fees and other costs don't stand in the way of a child's future.

With her business grant, Sadiatu* chose to set up a food stall, and it's thriving. Her children are now enrolled in school.

On average, one Family Business for Education grant helps keep two children in school.

At just nine years old, Mariatu* already knows who she wants to be:

a lawyer who fights for children's rights.

With six children in her family, her mother couldn’t afford to send them all to school, so Mariatu had never had the chance to learn alongside other children her age. Through Street Child's Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) programme, a partnership with Education Above All Foundation (EAA), and with support from Qatar Fund for Development, Mariatu has received the support she needs to stay safe, in school, and learning.

"On my first day in school, I felt very happy and excited," Mariatu shared. Now, she's settled into school life and working hard towards her dream for the future.
