Our purpose is to see all children safe, in school and learning. We are Street Child. We believe every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn.

Currently, 125 million school-aged children are out of education worldwide. Millions more children are in school but failing to learn. Street Child believes that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step that can be taken towards the elimination of global poverty.

Mariatu*, aged 9 from Sierra Leone, always wanted to go to school, but her family couldn’t afford the costs.

Her mother was supported through Street Child’s Family Business for Education scheme, receiving a grant and training to set up her own small business. With a steadier income, she was able to cover the costs of sending all six of her children to school, including Mariatu.

Now in her fourth year of primary school, Mariatu dreams of becoming a lawyer one day, so she can stand up for children whose rights are overlooked.

It’s been one month since devastating flash floods tore through Nepal.

Thanks to your support, Street Child was able to act within hours, getting emergency relief kits to children and families who had lost so much.

But the need is still huge.

More than 22,000 children across 63 schools are still affected. Schools have been damaged, roads are blocked and families have been forced from their homes. For many children, the simple routine of going to school is still out of reach.

This week during UNGA, the UK announced its pledge of £100 million to the Global Partnership for Education – a devastating reduction of 77%.

GPE is the world's largest education fund, and one the UK helped found. Slashing support now, on top of wider cuts to education aid, is a crushing blow for the children who are most in need.

We welcome the UK's strong backing for Education Cannot Wait. But two things can be true. Children need education in a crisis and in the years that follow. That means backing both ECW and GPE.

We're proud to announce a new partnership between Street Child and the Antonio Rüdiger Foundation. ⚽️🌍

For Antonio Rüdiger, this one is personal: "My parents fled civil war and sought refuge in Germany so that my siblings and I could have a better future. Street Child is a children's charity rooted in Sierra Leone — like me."

Together, we will be using the power of football to help more children get into school, stay there, and build the skills and confidence to go further.

Daniel* is 14 and lives in a refugee settlement in Uganda. He loves football and is studying hard to become a doctor. ⚽️🩺

Through Street Child’s Family Business for Education programme, run with our local partner CIYOTA, a refugee-led local organisation, Daniel’s mother received a business grant and mentorship. With this support, she was able to start and run a business, earning income to afford Daniel’s school fees and bring him back to school.

Now, Daniel has the chance to learn, enjoy being a child, and have hope for a bright future.
