Bonny Downs Community Association "Working together to change lives and transform our community"
BDCA is a charity in East Ham

BDCA strive to make a real and lasting difference to the quality of life of local people by redeveloping disused local spaces, promoting community cohesion, encouraging healthier lifestyles and addressing the root causes of poverty. Over the past 15 years, we have transformed 4 derelict local spaces into thriving community facilities: The Well Community Centre, Flanders Playing Field, Bobby Moore

Sports Pavilion and the Grow Together Be Together community food growing garden. From these renovated spaces, we deliver a range of targeted community projects which address specific areas of need: Elders & their Carers, Children & Families, Food, Youth, Sports and Poverty Response. Details of our current events, activities and services are listed on our website www.bonnydowns.org

Fans cool your body, not the room. They create airflow across your skin, helping you feel cooler. Want an extra cooling boost?

1. Place a frozen bottle of water or bowl of ice in front of your fan.

2. At night, fill a hot water bottle with cold water to help keep cool while you sleep.

Simple ideas like these can help you stay comfortable without relying on more energy-intensive cooling.

Did you know? Your oven heats your kitchen as well as your food.

Our friends at want you to know that on warm days, that extra heat can make your home less comfortable. Why not choose one no-oven day each week?

Cold meals, microwaves, slow cookers and air fryers can all help keep your kitchen cooler and typically use less energy for many everyday meals.

What's your favourite no-oven meal?

Work with the sun, not against it.

Our friends at want you to know that closed curtains or blinds on windows in direct sunshine to help stop heat building up indoors.

You don't need to keep every curtain closed all day. Instead, follow the sun. Once the sun has moved on, open them again to enjoy the daylight.

It's a simple habit that can help keep your home more comfortable during warmer weather.

We're expecting another week of very warm weather.

Hot weather can pose serious risks to people receiving care and support, particularly older adults, those with underlying health conditions and individuals who may struggle to regulate their temperature or remain hydrated independently.

Its been a pleasure to work alongside our friends at to have solar panels fitted to our venue at The Well.

We recently worked together again to create a video chronicling the work we do and what our use of the solar panels has helped to enable. In this video, hear directly from community leaders, team members, and local residents about grassroots impact, sustainability and energy resilience and empowering local people.
