BDCA is a charity in East Ham

BDCA strive to make a real and lasting difference to the quality of life of local people by redeveloping disused local spaces, promoting community cohesion, encouraging healthier lifestyles and addressing the root causes of poverty. Over the past 15 years, we have transformed 4 derelict local spaces into thriving community facilities: The Well Community Centre, Flanders Playing Field, Bobby Moore Sports Pavilion and the Grow Together Be Together community food growing garden. From these renovated spaces, we deliver a range of targeted community projects which address specific areas of need: Elders & their Carers, Children & Families, Food, Youth, Sports and Poverty Response. Look what we got!

Our new privacy pod inside our WELLcome Hub provides a quiet, soundproof and confidential space to talk to our advice team, while surrounded by the joyful chaos of community in our Hub!

Our Debt Advisor will occupy it with clients on Wednesdays between 11am-1pm and the Hestia team will use it on Thursdays between 9.30am-midday.

Outside of this, our Hub team will use it for any private conversations with community members that need it, and all our guests are welcome to use it if you need a moment of quiet.

We want everyone who comes through our doors to feel comfortable, listened to and supported, and this new pod helps us do just that.

Did you know that you can hire our spaces for your meetings, activities and events?

When you book with us, every penny generated from venue hire is reinvested directly into our charity, enabling us to provide activities and services to our neighbours in need.

We received the John James Memorial Good Neighbour Award by Rotary Club of Stratford.

This award is really a reflection of the people who make our charity what it is: our staff, volunteers, supporters, partners and everyone who gets involved.

Our over-55s group enjoyed a day trip to Faversham, Kent a few weeks ago.

It was a great day of exploring, chatting, enjoying the sights and spending time together. Days out like this are a lovely way for older people to stay connected, meet new friends and make memories.

Some photos from our Food & Families project celebrating the festival of Onam last month at our WELLcome Hub.

We enjoyed some fantastic food, beautiful traditional outfits, music and dancing, and most importantly, time together as a community.

It was wonderful to see so many people come along, share their traditions and celebrate together. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!

Where has September gone?!

Our teams held Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning fundraisers selling delicious treats and potted plants across our Well Community Centre and WELLcome Hub.

A big thank you to everyone who baked, donated, grew the plants(!) and bought something or helped out on the day. Together we helped raise money for an amazing cause.

Part-time Role: Tech & Marketing Officer

We’re looking for a friendly, professional person who can maintain our monitoring database, train staff and volunteers on using our systems, and support our fundraising efforts with marketing materials and campaigns.

Today, we joined fellow grantees to celebrate the impact of funding from Lyle's Local Fund.

Thanks to their support, we've been able to deliver our dementia-friendly Sing & Stretch sessions, with choir and chair-based exercise, helping older people in Newham stay active, connected, and supported. An amazing result is that our choir group have been invited to do a festive performance at The Old Vic Theatre!

It was inspiring to meet other local organisations making a difference in our community.
