We’re pleased to see confirmation that works of art, collectors’ items and antiques classified under Chapter 97 will be exempt from US tariffs, providing welcome clarity for the international art and antiques trade.

This positive outcome follows extensive advocacy by CINOA & BAMF, both of which LAPADA is a proud member. We’re delighted to see this collaborative effort achieve such an important result for dealers, collectors and the wider market.

One of the most influential misconceptions in the history of cartography.

This remarkable 1665 world map from Altea Gallery is the first atlas map of the world to depict California as an island, an enduring geographical error that appeared on maps for more than a century.

Published for John Speed’s celebrated Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World, the first English world atlas, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the evolving understanding of the globe during the Age of Exploration. Beyond California, Korea is also shown as an island, while the mythical kingdom of Beach appears on the vast “Southerne Unknowne Land”.

Richly embellished with celestial spheres, allegorical figures of the Four Elements, portraits of famous circumnavigators and astronomical diagrams, the map is as much a work of art as it is a historical document.

📍 Discover it with Altea Gallery at the LAPADA Berkeley Square Fair this October.
