At Arts for Dementia, we use the power of the arts to inspire people living with dementia to get creative, connect, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun. Since 2011 we have delivered and championed meaningful artistic activities that profoundly enhance wellbeing and harness creative skills that we know remain vibrant for years after diagnosis. Our free workshops aim to challenge and boo

We were thrilled to see our founder and president, Veronica Franklin Gould MBE (Veronica Franklin Gould), featured by London TV last week.

In the interview, Veronica shares the personal story that inspired her to establish Arts for Dementia, reflects on receiving an MBE earlier this year in recognition of her contribution to arts, health and dementia, and discusses how creativity can help people living with dementia stay connected, engaged and inspired.

We're incredibly proud of all that Veronica has achieved and grateful for the vision that continues to guide our work.💙

We're delighted that artworks created by three Arts for Dementia participants are being included in 'Images of Research' at King's College London (King's College London).

PhD student Janice Kamajaya (Louisa Janice Kamajaya) , who volunteers with Arts for Dementia, selected the prints produced by our participants Gill, Richard and Wendy, and added mixed-media elements inspired by her experiences with our participants and her dementia research.

Her work has been selected for Images of Research, a new competition launched by King's Doctoral College that celebrates visual storytelling in research communication.

The additions to the artworks use symbols including forget-me-not flowers, books and red thread to explore themes of memory, dementia and the ongoing search for understanding and treatment.

The exhibition launches on 10 June and is open to the public. We are proud to see our participants' creativity helping to spark conversations about dementia and research.

You can register for free tickets here👇

Our lovely print-making programme with the fabulous artist Jenni Allen () came to an end last week.

Our fantastic local group at The Tree House, Elephant & Castle explored bold colours, texture and layering through a range of print-making techniques over the past few weeks. From Gelli plate printing and gradient backgrounds to creating original stencils and repurposing “gone wrong” prints into something new, participants embraced experimentation and creativity throughout the programme.

As the sessions progressed, prints were layered and developed further, before being transformed into vibrant collaged artworks during the final two weeks. It has been wonderful to see everyone’s confidence and creativity grow along the way.

💙A huge thank you to Jenni for leading such an inspiring programme, and to everyone who took part.

If you would like to find out about joining one of our programmes just get in touch. No previous experience is needed, it's all about having fun and giving it a go. 😊

A group of lucky participants have spent the last 4 weeks in the brilliantly inspiring Central Saint Martins University (), where they were encouraged to unleash their inner artist with the help from second year Fine Art students and their brilliant tutor Shepherd Manyika ().

The programme was called 'Communing' which encouraged participants and students to create collaboratively, sharing stories and finding the freedom to express themselves creatively by letting their own unique identities shine through. We did this through incorporating our own memorable objects into still-life setups for the group to draw and mark-make. We collaged using pictures to act as words, depicting an event or memory. Colourful 3D characters were sculpted by each participant, which were then photographed and used to create stories in poster form.

A beautiful tapestry was created by sewing square textile tiles together, which each participant made uniquely before forming a larger 'communing' piece which hung proudly in 'the street' (the main walkway in CSM) along with other creations from the programme. Watching our participants walk around their own mini exhibition at the end of the programme was a really special and commemorative feeling.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to the whole team at Central Saint Martins for welcoming us to your space and engaging us in such a special and artistic programme.💙 We are already excited to see what next year has in store for our group!
