Today, more than 800 pupils from 14 primary schools across Warwick and Leamington came together at St Margaret’s CE Junior School to celebrate the Day of the African Child and our partnerships with schools in Bo, Sierra Leone.
The day was filled with singing, dancing, drumming, storytelling, art and sport, celebrating global citizenship and the power of international friendship.
The Mayor of Warwick, Councillor, representative from Matt Western MP’s office, activity leaders, and representative from Send My Friend to School were gathered at the end of the day to deliver their speeches and insights with the pupils.
As part of the day, pupils showcased their work for the Send My Friend to School campaign, highlighting every child’s right to education and the need for greater investment in education globally. Around 10 schools presented letters that they had written using Send My Friends' Resources to their MPs, calling on the UK Government to invest in education and reverse cuts to Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Pupils from St Margaret’s CE Junior School delivered a powerful speech in solidarity with the millions of children around the world who are currently out of school, urging the UK Government to take action and reverse its decision to cut aid spending that supports education.
Member of Send My Friend to School also addressed the audience, sharing our message that:
“At Send My Friend to School, we believe that every child, wherever they live, regardless of their background, gender, and geographical Location, deserves the chance to go to school, learn, and follow their dreams.”
