🌱 A great morning at BNI Compass in Shirley!

Today our 10-minute speaker was Mike Taylor from 1840 Lawn Care, sharing his expertise on some of the most common lawn problems from moss, drought damage and pests to getting tired lawns healthy again.

Mike has 15+ years’ experience in the turf industry and a degree in Turfgrass Science, so there’s a lot more science behind a great lawn than you might think! 🌱

One of the things I love about our BNI Compass meetings is getting to know the people behind local businesses. We learn what they do, who they help and, importantly, who we can introduce them to.

We meet every week in Shirley, and we’re always pleased to welcome local business owners who would like to experience a meeting and introduce their business to the room.

Another great meeting at BNI Compass this morning!

Each week, one of our trusted members has a 10-minute business presentation slot, giving us the opportunity to learn more about what they do and how they can help our clients and contacts.

This week, it was Sev Guryel from Guryel & Co Chartered Accountants.

Sev talked us through the different ways of taking £50,000 from a business and explained how the amount you actually keep can vary depending on whether you operate as a sole trader or a limited company.

A really informative presentation that showed why choosing the right business structure—and receiving good accountancy and tax-planning advice—is so important. Thank you, Sev! 👏

We also mixed things up by swapping our usual 30-second business introductions with another member, who then had the sole responsibility of promoting our business on our behalf!

There was plenty of fun and joviality along the way, but it was also a great test of how well we listen to and understand one another’s businesses.

Tom Coombs represented SOB - Survivors Of aBuse this week, while I represented Tom and TWC Locksmith Services

Tom did such a brilliant job that he won the PJ Cup which means he gets 60 seconds to promote his own business next week! 🙌

Thank you to last weeks winner Paul from Arrival Lifts for presenting the PJ Cup to Tom.

Today at our BNI Chapter meeting, our member Mike Taylor from 1840 Lawn Care reminded us exactly why BNI works.

Using a simple piece of rope, Mike demonstrated the collective power of working together as a team compared with trying to build a business alone.

Each connection strengthens the others and together, we can achieve so much more.

A 10-minute presentation helps everyone in the understand how they may use your services, but more importantly how they will refer you to their contacts. In May we heard from;

Eric Churet from Estate Planners spoke about LPA’s, Wills and Trusts. He had a good way of remembering the difference, an LPA is for the living (what happens if someone needs to make decisions on your behalf) and a Will is for the dead (what happens when you have gone). He also touched on what happens if you’re in a business partnership and one partner becomes ill, incapacitated or dies, and his new mediation service.

Christos Polyviou announced to our group the launch of his new business called Real Estate. Watch this space to see how the business grows and evolves, but the service offering is the same as he has always offered as a property consultant, so you can continue to use him for sales, lettings and property management. He is also a domestic energy assessor.

James Chipping from Hearnden Associates who spoke about how his role supports clients with financial planning, including investments, pensions and in some more bespoke areas such as later life care. James addresses complex financial matters and advises on the most tax-efficient ways of saving and planning for the future.
