Ryan Gosling adopted a mixed breed dog named George around 2000. George was already an older dog. Gosling was in his early twenties, years before anyone knew his name.

They were together for 17 years.

George went everywhere with him. Film sets, press tours, road trips. He showed up on talk shows. Gosling once brought George onto a late night interview, and George sat on the couch like he belonged there. Because he did.

Gosling never talked about George like a pet. He called him "the love of his life" and described him as his best friend. In interviews, he'd mention George before bringing up whatever film he was promoting.

George died in December 2016. Gosling paid tribute to him publicly, and anyone who'd followed the two of them over the years understood why.

He adopted an old dog when he had nothing. He kept that dog by his side through everything that came after. For 17 years, through an entire career, George was the constant.

Most people get a dog. Gosling got a best friend and built his life around making sure that dog was always with him πŸ’›

The sea floor suddenly appeared.

After a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Mindanao on June 8, parts of the southern Philippine coastline were dramatically lifted, exposing seabed that had been underwater for centuries. Scientists say some areas rose by as much as 2 meters, extending shorelines by up to 200 meters.

The movement, caused by the Cotabato Trench, also exposed coral reefs and seagrass beds to the sun, leaving fish and other marine life stranded. The earthquake killed at least 61 people and left around 40 missing.

In just minutes, the earthquake reshaped the coastline, offering a striking reminder of the powerful forces constantly transforming our planet.
