‼️ The Seesaw of Unfairness: A Call for More Fairness and Balance ‼️

Pete Seeger, the legendary American folk musician and social activist, was known for his powerful songs advocating justice, peace, and equality. One of his most memorable quotes resonates with the sense of helplessness many of us feel when we look at the state of the world today—but it also carries a thread of optimism for those of us who refuse to look away and are determined to make a difference:
🗨️ The world is like a seesaw out of balance: on one side is a box of big rocks, tilting it its way. On the other side is a box, and a bunch of us with teaspoons, adding a little sand at a time. One day, all of our teaspoons will add up, and the whole thing will tip, and people will say, 'How did it happen so fast? 🗨️

Maureen Steele, founding member of the Fairness Forum, reflects on this quote: “It perfectly captures how I feel and echoes the spirit and purpose of the Fairness Forum. Today, powerful forces are tipping the balance in favor of the 'big rocks.' But I remain convinced that every effort to make a difference counts. These teaspoons - whether small acts of resistance, raising conversations on fairness, advancing action on global warming, or regulating AI and robotics - add up. Our teaspoons may seem small, but each grain of sand has the power to shift the balance in unexpected ways."

At the Fairness Forum, we are building a platform that sparks both debate and action - a catalyst for meaningful change. Fairness isn’t just about individual actions; it’s about systemic change. The imbalance won’t be corrected by a single monumental shift but by a collective, persistent effort.

Our teaspoons matter - let’s keep adding sand!

‼️ History Repeating Itself? (AI & Robotics Series, Part 3)

We've seen this before: social media turned our data into trillions. Meta's worth over $1.5 trillion, built on our content. And most of us got... convenience. ?

Julie Hamilton, Founding Member of the Fairness Forum and Clear Life AI, warns AI is doing the same thing, only on a much bigger scale. This time, the stakes are existential.

🤖 AI & robotics have positive potential but will disrupt jobs and industries, reshaping income and society. Are we about to repeat history’s biggest mistake — on an even larger scale?

🔃 The future isn't inevitable. It's about choices. Who owns the value? Who benefits from productivity gains? Why isn’t it controversial to say the public should share the returns?

❓ The real question: will we let AI concentrate wealth and power or choose to build a fairer future?

What are your thoughts? Let’s discuss! 💬

‼️ The Shift to AI and Robotics: Ensuring Fairness, Not Just Disruption ‼️

AI and robotics are already transforming our world and the potential for good if we get it right is huge. However, there is a risk that vast numbers of people will be left behind.

❓ The question is not if we act, but how soon we act so we can make the future fair for everyone.

The need for real solutions is now more critical than ever. In the second of a series of short videos, Julie Hamilton, Fairness Forum founding member and founder of Clear Life AI (www.clear-life.ai) discusses one of the many possible solutions, the concept of Universal Basic Income (UBI). This could be seen as a kind of “Automation Dividend” to provide a safety net for those who need it most. This is no longer just a theoretical idea - it is part of the debate about the future of work and being discussed by tech titans such as Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Andrew Yang.

Julie believes we are already late to the conversation about how we can put mechanisms into place to deal with these complex systems changes that are heading our way and ensure that AI and robotics remain a force for good.

➡️ What does a fair transition really look like to you?
➡️ What do you think of the concept of UBI?
➡️ How can we shape a future that works for all?

Join the debate. Let’s act now to ensure fairness in the face of rapid change.

‼️ AI Is Already Reshaping Society - Fairness Must Lead in Decision-Making

💥 AI and robotics are not just transforming work; they are already reshaping our world. As technology advances faster than the systems to regulate it, we risk deepening existing divides if we don’t act quickly. Without more representative decision-makers at the table, AI’s benefits could be monopolized by a select few, leaving others behind.

💥 At the Fairness Forum, we believe this is a defining moment. The conversation cannot be left solely to policy makers, unelected billionaires or CEOs driven by profit or personal visions. It needs wider participation, better questions and a real commitment to ensure fairness and protection for all.

💥 Over the coming weeks Julie Hamilton, Founding Member of the Fairness Forum, Founder of Clear Life AI (www.clear-life.ai) will explore this pivotal moment, asking you to think about what you would say, if you had a seat at the table.

⚠️ If we get this wrong, the effects will be felt widely: in job security, identity, mental well-being, and trust. The experts agree the clock is ticking! We have very little time to get this right - and the stakes are high! If we collaborate more effectively, together we can build a future where fairness drives innovation for all of society.

Fairness matters - and not just to us at the Fairness Forum!
This week our post comes to you from Jill Pay, one of our Founding Members.

➡️ "Recently, I had the privilege of attending a reception in the House of Commons hosted by the Fairness Foundation and King’s College London’s Policy Institute, celebrating the launch of "Escaping the State We’re In" by Will Hutton. In his address, Hutton made a compelling case for an economic approach that fosters genuine entrepreneurship while addressing disabling levels of inequality. He emphasized the importance of boosting the capacity of the state to achieve a more equitable economy and society. Hutton highlighted Britain’s strengths, notably its position as a global leader in innovation—ranking third worldwide in innovation and first in Europe for frontier-tech companies. With over 800 venture-backed high-tech scale-ups in the country, Hutton argued that government ambition is key to ensuring these businesses reach their full potential and contribute to a fairer economy."

His message aligns with the Fairness Forum’s goal of building a more inclusive, innovative, and equitable society, where the benefits of economic growth are shared more equally. The intersection of entrepreneurship, fairness, and government policy is crucial for achieving this vision.

Let's always ask ? when it comes to making this vision a reality.

⚠️ The Abuse of Power and Its Harmful Consequences ⚠️

John Stuart Mill said, “The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against their will, is to prevent harm to others.” Yet, we see power used to cause harm worldwide.
?

🔥 From sexual violence victims exploited by those in power to nations using military might to pursue selfish agendas, we’re witnessing immense suffering. Those in positions of power often prioritize personal gain over fairness and empathy, leaving vulnerable individuals to bear the consequences.

🔥 Too often, the most vulnerable are sacrificed for the interests of a few, and fairness is overlooked. If power is not used responsibly, the consequences are dire.

🌍 It’s time to demand leadership rooted in fairness, empathy, and accountability. We must ask: How can we ensure that power serves to protect, not destroy?

Standing Against Violence and Mistrust

Violence against women remains a global issue - and we must ask ? The murder of Sarah Everard in 2021 sparked outrage, yet mistrust in the police still holds women back from seeking help. Across the world, from Afghanistan's disturbing approval of wife-beating to Queen Camilla's speech on it's clear that change is needed—now.

Founding member of the Fairness Forum, Lynne Kerry, is deeply passionate about addressing these issues. We must ensure women are safe, supported, and free from violence—everywhere.

As the conflict with Iran intensifies, we are faced with a critical dilemma: the need to confront repressive regimes while ensuring that fairness and adherence to international law guide our actions.
➡️ On the one hand, the world cannot and should not turn a blind eye to regimes that oppress their people and violate fundamental human rights. The desire to take action against such injustice is understandable. However, we must also recognize the importance of fairness — not just in the pursuit of justice, but in how we engage with global conflicts. Upholding the rule of law, respecting sovereignty, and protecting innocent lives must remain central.
➡️ As we navigate these turbulent times, it’s crucial for all of us to be aware and on our guard. We must not accept the actions of politicians at face value, especially when driven by self-interest or short-term gains rather than a true commitment to justice. Politicians often mask their motivations with rhetoric, and it is vital that we remain vigilant, questioning actions and ensuring that any response to tyranny aligns with global values and legal integrity.
➡️ When we act, we must act with fairness and justice in mind. Moving forward, let us stay informed, mindful, and watchful. Only then can we build a just world.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this conflict.

Does the world have the resources to meet everyone's basic needs? If the answer in principle is yes, why do millions still live in poverty and face inequality?
...Because of inefficient resource distribution, unjust economic systems, and environmental degradation - and let's be honest, the self-interest of those who pursue power and money without a thought for others.

Fairness isn’t a lofty ideal—it’s essential. It’s about ensuring everyone, no matter where they are, has access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive. But we can’t afford to ignore the hard truth:

➡️ We must ask more of our decision-makers today for the sake of our children and their descendants tomorrow.
➡️ We must demand that they prioritize inclusive growth, sustainable practices, and equitable resource distribution over the interests of the wealthy few.
➡️ We must shift the narrative. Instead of focusing on policies that let the rich get richer, let’s advocate for systems that lift up the most vulnerable.
➡️ We must invest in education, healthcare, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture.

These aren’t just investments in our future—they are investments in fairness.

As individuals and as a collective, we must hold decision-makers accountable. Let’s stop letting inequality and environmental harm define our future. Together, we can build a world where fairness is the foundation, and where prosperity stands a better chance of being shared by all.

🌱 Join the debate at the Fairness Forum - the time for change is now.
🌱 What one change would you advocate for now to create a fairer and equitable world for all! 🌍
