‼️ The Seesaw of Unfairness: A Call for More Fairness and Balance ‼️
Pete Seeger, the legendary American folk musician and social activist, was known for his powerful songs advocating justice, peace, and equality. One of his most memorable quotes resonates with the sense of helplessness many of us feel when we look at the state of the world today—but it also carries a thread of optimism for those of us who refuse to look away and are determined to make a difference:
🗨️ The world is like a seesaw out of balance: on one side is a box of big rocks, tilting it its way. On the other side is a box, and a bunch of us with teaspoons, adding a little sand at a time. One day, all of our teaspoons will add up, and the whole thing will tip, and people will say, 'How did it happen so fast? 🗨️
Maureen Steele, founding member of the Fairness Forum, reflects on this quote: “It perfectly captures how I feel and echoes the spirit and purpose of the Fairness Forum. Today, powerful forces are tipping the balance in favor of the 'big rocks.' But I remain convinced that every effort to make a difference counts. These teaspoons - whether small acts of resistance, raising conversations on fairness, advancing action on global warming, or regulating AI and robotics - add up. Our teaspoons may seem small, but each grain of sand has the power to shift the balance in unexpected ways."
At the Fairness Forum, we are building a platform that sparks both debate and action - a catalyst for meaningful change. Fairness isn’t just about individual actions; it’s about systemic change. The imbalance won’t be corrected by a single monumental shift but by a collective, persistent effort.
Our teaspoons matter - let’s keep adding sand!
