Found myself fidgeting with one of these sensory beads as I considered what to post here... So, here are the photos from our first C.O.A.C. session of the term.

We planned the activity to help the children transition from the school holidays back to term-time. The children loved squishing and stretching the beads and understanding - and explaining - the mechanism of the machine. They made bag charms for school bags and fidget toys to take into school to help them focus.

We also each shared 1 thing that is the same and 1 thing that is different about us since the last C.O.A.C session. Despite the new hair styles and colours and bigger shoes, the children found the same types of snacks, games, session structure and set-up - solidifying C.O.A.C as part of their weekly routine for the new term.

Thanks to the customer service team for their prompt response to our query to ensure we provide an allergy-safe environment.

And thanks to and for their generous support

How were your school holidays? Here Paths Through Change C.I.C, ours were record breaking! 🎖

At our Spring Sessions for Single Parent Families, we broke our own records for:

🫂 Most people at a session

🆕️ Most new families welcomed

👶🏾 Biggest age range of children (6 months to 8 years old!)

🚌 Further distance someone travelled to attend

⏰️ Longest time a family spent at a session

Ironically (considering our own record-breaking numbers), each session included a non-competitive hunt for chocolates or toys which the children collaborated to hide and find treats for each other.

The power of connection was also clear in the conversations the parents shared about the issues that really matter to them. Despite staying longer than ever before (and after the advertised times!), we reckon the parents could have stayed there all evening!

Enormous thanks to the families who attended and to Haringey Council for funding these impactful sessions.

Thanks to NEXUS creative print production for our new leaflets and posters which were originally designed by the children who attend our after-school club. They wanted to include photos with them in them, they chose the wording of *who* the club is for and always push us to increase the age range (so that they never have to leave)!

Thank you to the parents of children who attend for their lovely testimonials about why they continue to come to the club. We are also excited to share a section of the Independent Evaluation commissioned by Haringey Council of our work, which will be officially launched shortly.

Please share this post with any local schools who might like some of our leaflets or a poster - we have also previously delivered accompanying assemblies (online and in-person) to explain the club to the children in the school.

We're back today - places still available for the summer term. Details, term dates and booking link here: www.pathsthroughchange.com/c-o-a-c

Huge thanks to:
- Tottenham Grammar School Foundation who funded these leaflets and posters, in addition to so much more for the club
- Haringey Giving without whose funding the club would not, and could not, exist
- The Old Nursery, Tottenham for providing such a gorgeous home to us

Paths Through Change + Triangle Centre = Unseasonably Warm Weather

I'm not sure how we manage it, but we always bring the sunshine to the Triangle Centre! Our sessions at the Triangle Centre last Summer were in 30 degree heat. And now the weather forecast tells us that tomorrow, for our Spring Session at the Triangle Centre, will be 23 degrees!

It's brilliant because we have access the the gorgeous outside space - check out the photos of our time there last year. Like last time, tomorrow's session will include gardening and crafting and cooking, but with a Sunny Spring theme:

🪴decorate a pot and plant a flower (using a choice of washable, easy-to-use or porcelain paint pens)
🎨make a basket (with options including stickers, weaving and wooden baskets
🍪make seasonable edible treats (including sprinkles, squeezy icing and fondant moulding)
🏁 non-competitive, allergy-inclusive hunt and other Spring 'sports day' activities

*Free* places still available for Single / Separated Parent Families in Haringey thanks to funding from Haringey Council: https://www.pathsthroughchange.com/book-sss/

10am-12pm: parents and preschoolers
1pm-2:45pm: primary-aged children
*Bigger Siblings welcome during both sessions - break-out spaces with age-appropriate activities will be available*

We are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Director of Paths Through Change C.I.C.

Lucy says "Over the years I have watched my friend’s parents separate and observed the way it has shaped, and continues to shape them. As a parent, I understand how much children need space to feel heard, especially through a family change that they haven’t chosen.

I’m excited to bring my experience in strategy, operational delivery and the public sector to Paths Through Change, and to support such an incredible organisation doing such important work for, and with, young people."

The existing Directors - Zara, Eily and Tom - are excited to welcome Lucy to the Board. Paths Through Change couldn't do the work it does without the Board's generous dedication and support. Thank you!

I know what it feels like to avoid walking into rooms with new people in it. To overthink everything from what I am wearing to when I arrive.

I know what it feels like to feel like you have entered into a new portal of existence and from there, you can only watch through a divider at those who still live in the world you used to live in.

This is why I have made a career of looking up and out, noticing those people on the margins and looking directly into their eyes and telling them that they are welcome here.

When people feel seen for who they are, they want to tell you more about who they are and what brought them to the person they are today. It is my favourite thing to listen whole-heartedly when people want to share their stories.

And now, as people start to leave their homes again in celebration of the warmer weather and longer days, I get to be on the receiving end of other people greeting me. There is no better feeling than being seen for who you are and receiving a wave, a smile or a hug that says: I'm glad you're here.

While it's brilliant that more places are providing 'children's activities', it does mean that children and young people these days are highly discerning.

They can tell the difference between a printed out colouring sheet with a handful of pens without lids and a high quality activity that is age appropriate and aligns with their interests.

Running sessions for children of all ages, neurotypes, food intolerances and personalities means adapting activities to be inclusive so everyone feels welcome.

Plus the purpose of our sessions is to make children and young people feel seen, known and respected. If children and young people go to the effort of travelling somewhere only to be disappointed by the quality of the activities, this will have the opposite effect.

You can see from the photos that we are planning hard to make sure that the activities at our Spring Sessions for Single Parent Families don't disappoint! Anyone coming through the door will be invited to:

🎨make a basket (with options including stickers, weaving and wooden baskets)

🪴decorate a pot and plant a flower (using a choice of washable, easy-to-use or porcelain paint pens)

🍪make seasonable edible treats (including sprinkles, squeezy icing and fondant moulding)

Once we have made our baskets, there will be a non-competitive, allergy-inclusive hunt (prizes still hidden to add to the excitement!)

If you're a single mother and last Sunday fell a bit flat... Or you're a single father and no one even remembers to acknowledge that you exist!

Tomorrow (Saturday 21st March) is Single Parents Day!

It's an international holiday and all over the world, people are marking it in different ways:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The The Scottish Government is urging one parent families to check if they are eligible for social security support: https://www.socialsecurity.gov.scot/news/2026/03/families-urged-not-to-miss-out-on-financial-support-this-national-single-parents-day

🇬🇧 In the UK, Gingerbread are hosting a virtual comedy show at 9pm tomorrow "for a night full of hilarious stories and relatable jokes, celebrating the ups and downs of single parenthood": https://www.gingerbread.org.uk/our-work/news-and-views/virtual-comedy-show-to-celebrate-single-parents-day/

🇺🇸 The nonprofit Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund issued the Single Parent Juggling Challenge as part of its fundraiser in honor of National Single Parent Day: https://www.whiterivernow.com/2026/03/11/batesville-area-students-create-videos-to-promote-march-20-juggling-fundraiser-for-single-parents/

We'd love to hear whether you are going to mark it and - if so - how you will.

What did your mum ask for this Mother's Day?

A lie in, a warm bath, a homemade card?

This week at C.O.A.C. our after-school club for children from single / separated parent families, we provided:
- an hour of free respite
- space for the children to make their own edible gifts
- free cinema tickets for Mother's Day itself

Thank you to our funders Haringey Giving and for enabling us to spoil the children's parents and to for providing the lovely space.

An absolutely enormous THANK YOU to who have so generously hosted us free of charge for our sessions for single parent families, including our:
- Warm Winter Welcome
- Festive Family Party
- C.O.A.C after-school club

As you can see from the photos, the Community Hub is a bright, warm and welcoming space and we have been inspired by using it through the changing weather and seasons.

It is also a very accessible location, near Seven Sisters station, enabling families from Northumberland Park to Tottenham Hale to Wood Green to reach us.

As Spring arrives and the days get lighter for longer, we are celebrating the news that we can continue running C.O.A.C. from the Hub into our Summer Term.

Enormous thanks to the responsive and helpful team at The Old Nursery, especially Malene and Hazel. Your support in spreading the word is also much appreciated. Generous arrangements like yours make all the difference to not-for-profit organisations like ours.
