Happy National Poetry Day! To celebrate, we're offering schools the chance to win a class set of 'Michael Rosen's A-Z of Poetry' anthology by entering our competition. Watch the video to discover a simple writing challenge inspired by Michael's poem ‘Down Behind the Dustbin’.

To enter, invite your class to create their own short poems with ‘Down behind the dustbin’ as a first line. Encourage children to experiment with rhyme, humour and the unexpected. Email your entries to [email protected] by Friday 23 October 2026, and please include your class name with first names of children under each entry. Children must be 11 or under to enter.

The Children's Bookshow autumn tour got off to a spectacular start with Michael Rosen at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Thursday. Over a thousand children packed out the theatre to enjoy Michael's poems and stories - and went back to school with their very own copies of Out of This World (with wonderful illustrations by Ed Vere).

Believe it or not, today is National Cream Tea day! To celebrate, perhaps you could take a look at Chris Naylor-Ballesteros's wonderful book The Teacup? If your children are lucky enough to be coming to our event in Exeter this November, they will receive their own copy to take home and keep.

There are only three months to go until The Children's Bookshow 2026 tour begins 🤩
Our first stop is with legendary author Michael Rosen at the brilliant Wolverhampton Grand on 24th September. As one of our finest childrenʼs poets and authors, the fifth Childrenʼs Laureate, and a passionate advocate of childrenʼs reading, Michael needs no introduction.
Next up are Kate Wakeling and Elīna Brasliņa in fantastic Coventry! Join us at the Belgrade Theatre on 5th October with your Year 4, 5 and 6 classes. This performance will focus on the aclaimed Cloud Soup, a captivating collection of poems by Kate Wakeling, imaginatively illustrated by Elīna Brasliņa. We are so excited to give every child a copy of this fantastic book.
