Four years ago, Jina Mahsa Amini was killed in the custody of the Islamic Republic for the “crime” of being a woman.

Her name became an eternal movement. Led by women, thousands upon thousands took to the streets across Iran, removing their compulsory hijabs and demanding freedom, dignity and an end to the regime.

The Islamic Republic answered them with bullets, ex*****ons, mass arrests and torture. More than 600 people were killed, including children. Yet no effective, independent investigation has taken place, and no official has been prosecuted or tried for killing Jina Mahsa Amini or those murdered during the uprising.

But Woman, Life, Freedom did not begin or end in 2022.

Since 1979, every movement has built upon the courage and sacrifices of the one before it—from the student protests of 1999 and the Green Movement of 2009, to the uprisings of 2017–18, Bloody November 2019, Woman, Life, Freedom and the January Lion and Sun revolution.

These were never isolated movements. Different sparks. Different generations. One continuing struggle to reclaim Iran.

Jina, we will never forget you.
We will never forgive them.

The revolution did not disappear. It evolved.

Woman, Life Freedom.
Long Live Iran.
Forever the Lion and Sun.

Aras used to sing with his mother.

Today, he plays the piano for her.

Like thousands of other Iranians, Nastaran Zarehmanesh took to the streets in the hope of a different future. A mother of two from Tehran’s Naziabad district, she was killed by Iranian security forces on January 8, 2026. In her final moments, she held her husband’s hand in one hand and her son Aras’s in the other. Her 10-year-old daughter, Ava, was at home.

The days that followed brought little peace. According to relatives, the family faced intense pressure from security authorities while trying to recover her body. They say officials demanded payment, sought a written statement attributing her death to cardiac arrest, and warned the family against speaking publicly.

Today, her son remembers her through music.

The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners has issued a statement warning about the conditions faced by women prisoners in Yazd Prison, describing the situation in the women’s ward as inhumane. According to the information released, a number of detainees arrested during recent protests are facing harsh sentences sentences or prolonged legal uncertainty while being held in conditions that have raised serious concerns about their physical and psychological well-being.

According to the published information, some of the detained women have reportedly been prosecuted solely for social media-related activities, including reposting content or reacting to online posts, and have subsequently faced severe punishments.

The statement also highlights the lack of separation of crimes within the women’s ward of Yazd Prison. Political detainees and prisoners of conscience are reportedly being held alongside inmates convicted of drug-related offenses, a situation human rights advocates say places additional psychological pressure on the detainees and threatens their safety and well-being.

In another part of the statement, concern was expressed over the condition of Kurdish political prisoner Zeinab Jalalian. Having spent years in exile imprisonment, she is reportedly in urgent need of medical treatment, and continued deprivation of adequate healthcare could place her at serious risk of vision loss.

| The Mizan news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, reported the ex*****on of Ehsan Afrashteh on charges of « cooperation with Mossad. » This ex*****on is part of an increasing wave of death sentences carried out in Iran following the ceasefire between the Islamic Republic, the U.S., and Israel.

The ex*****on of Ehsan took place while his case was fraught with ambiguities and numerous reports of security pressures, forced confessions, and violations of the trial process. Born in 1994 and a graduate with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and an information technology specialist, Ehsan was arrested in early 2024 after returning from Turkey and spent months in solitary confinement.

Sources had previously stated that Ehsan’s case was monitored under the protection of the IRGC intelligence services and that he was under pressure to make forced confessions. It was also reported that security agencies had used his personal images and information to exert pressure.

Previous reports had emerged regarding his sudden transfer from Ward 7 of Evin Prison and the resistance of political prisoners against his transfer to Qizil Hesar Prison, a facility known as the « ex*****on post ». According to HRANA, prison guard forces violently expelled him from the hall in November, an action that was met with protests from his fellow detainees.

People often speak about Iran only through politics, headlines and geopolitics. But rarely do they speak about the psychological impact this has had on millions of human beings.

A population living under decades of oppression, fear, ex*****ons, censorship and violence is already carrying deep collective trauma. But when that suffering is continuously met with global silence, ignorance, racism, dehumanisation or political dismissal, the psychological damage deepens even further.

The past months have not only traumatised Iranians through what has happened inside Iran, but also through the experience of watching much of the world look away while ex*****ons, torture and repression continue behind blackout conditions.

And for many Iranians, seeing their pain minimised, politicised or spoken over online has created another layer of emotional exhaustion and isolation on top of the trauma they already carry.

There is a psychological weight and a human cost of forcing a nation to suffer in darkness while demanding it constantly prove its humanity to the world.

Stop negotiating with a regime that massacres the Iranian people.

You cannot sit across from ex*****oners and call it “diplomacy.” You cannot trade, bargain, or sign agreements with a regime that shoots protesters, carries out mass arrests, tortures detainees, and turns hospitals into places of fear, then claim you stand for human rights.

Every round of “engagement” while Iranians are being killed sends one clear message to the regime: keep going, you will still be welcomed.

Iran is not a bargaining chip. Iranians are not collateral.

People inside Iran are demanding exactly what many of you claim to believe in: freedom, democracy, and a secular future where they can live and vote without intimidation, without fear.

Stop legitimising oppressors.
Stop negotiating with a murderous regime.

There is no “ceasefire” for Iranians.
The Islamic Republic uses these moments to tighten repression, including the acceleration of mass ex*****ons. The head of the judiciary has now ordered courts to speed up death sentences, especially for Iranian protesters.

This is how the regime survives: blackout the truth, silence the streets, and turn fear into policy.

Keep your eyes on Iran. Keep sharing. Keep speaking.
Silence is what they rely on.

Reports show the regime is accelerating ex*****ons, targeting civilians and political prisoners, including people swept up after the January protests. This is state violence designed to terrorise a population into silence.

And even in these days of war and instability, the regime is still doing what it has always done: turning its force inward (against its own people) using the noose, the prison, the confession, the fear.

Do not look away.
Do not normalise this.

This regime is vile.

For years, Iranians have been warning that the Islamic Republic’s repression does not stop at Iran’s borders. It extends through intimidation, threats, surveillance, proxy violence, and attacks that place communities in danger far beyond Iran itself. Golders Green is a reminder that these warnings were never exaggerated.

This is exactly why the IRGC must be proscribed in the UK. The pressure for proscription has been growing, and London Assembly members recently renewed calls for the UK government to act, citing credible threats linked to the IRGC on British soil.

Iranians have been pushing this for years and have too often been ignored. But delay does not make Britain safer. It gives the regime and its networks more room to intimidate, operate, and escalate.

Proscribing the IRGC is not symbolic. It is about public safety, national security, and finally taking this threat seriously.
