A warm welcome to our new Learning and Pariticpation Programme Manager Roisin, who has been with us for just over a month! 👋

Roisin grew up amongst the Irish community in Derby/ Nottingham. She moved down to London to train at Rose Bruford College and the Institut Del Teatre in Barcelona, with a focus on radical theatre making with a European twist.

On graduating she found a passion for working with young people at a professional level artistically at her first job out of drama school at Battersea Arts Centre, inspired by their incredible work with the BAC Beatbox Academy and young resident companies such as Sounds Like Chaos, who were treated no differently to all other supported artists working in the building, and made mind blowing work as a concequence.

She has worked as a learning producer at venues such as Watford Palace, Jacksons Lane and artsdepot, bringing schools, young people and communities together with artists to make award winning artistic work of the highest quality on stages, outdoors, in schools, and at festivals.

Her time at working on the Imagine Watford outdoor festival and Jacksons Lane got her hooked on the visual spectacle of aerial theatre. She is delighted to be working for a company that pushes the boundaries of theatrical spectacle, with an industry-leading engagement progamme that puts all bodies and voices front and centre of the contemporary circus world. Welcome Roisin! 🎪

HEAR US ROAR: a riot of joy, a bouquet of textures and complex patterns untangled by thinking, listening and laughing together.

We are transported into the personal geographies of an intergeneration group of ageing female performers/ directors/ choreographers and non-binary emerging artists, their journeys through external and internal landscapes, sense of belonging, race, and gender. Their presence counteracts invisibility, their caring brings connection, they celebrate the imperfection on their skin, and proudly show the marks and scars accumulated through lives lived to the full.

Today is International Children’s Book Day! 📚

We are reflecting on our 3-month visual theatre performance project, BE-LONGING, inspired by the book ‘La Mariposa’ by Francisco Jimenez’, working with Keys Meadow Primary School’s Year 5 & 6 pupils.

Scarabeus worked with the pupils to explore team-building and trust, movement and staging, physical theatre and aerial skills; as well as visual art, costume and set design.

The project culminated in a performance telling the story of a young migrant who lives in a refugee camp and speaks little English; feeling different and facing isolation at school, our protagonist takes comfort in observing a caterpillar housed in a jar near his desk that slowly transforms into a butterfly.
