LFN on tour 2026 🍄🟫✈️🍄🟫
Last month, we were fortunate to visit China’s southernmost province - and ‘mushroom capital’ - Yunan. Albeit outside the wild mushroom season, signs of were everywhere - from statues at the airport, to restaurants, and the vast Kunming Wild Mushroom market, awash with dried wild and cultivated edibles - including Morels, which were first cultivated in the country.
The scale of the market was mind-boggling, way beyond anything we’ve encountered in any mycophagic European town.
We talked to locals about Lanmaoa asiatica, an edible blue-staining bolete that induces ‘Lilliputian’ hallucinations - xiao ren ren - if not prepared correctly 👯
It’s local name, Jian shou qing, 见手青 translates as ‘see-hand-blue’ and is also known at the Red Onion Bolete (红葱牛肝菌) & Purple Onion Bolete (紫葱牛肝菌).
