War in Ukraine: They “have refuge with us”, Moscow admits to having displaced “700,000 Ukrainian children” found in Russia.

Russia has transported some 700,000 children out of conflict zones in Ukraine to Russian territory in recent years, a high-ranking Russian elected official, Grigory Karasin, who chairs the international committee of the upper house of Parliament, said on Sunday evening.

As part of what it describes as a “special military operation” in Ukraine, launched in February 2022, Moscow says it is evacuating children in order to protect them and care for those who have become orphans or abandoned in combat zones.
