This week is Black Maternal Mental Health Week in the UK.

A time to reflect on the experiences of Black women, who still face a disproportionate risk of maternal and infant death and are more likely to report negative experiences of care during pregnancy and birth.

We look forward to a range of online in-person events led by the Motherhood Group, focusing on the themes of Joy, Justice and Journey.

Pregnant or recently had a baby? You could be entitled to free NHS prescriptions and NHS dental care.

Pregnant women and new mothers can get free NHS prescriptions and NHS dental care during pregnancy and for 12 months after giving birth — but you need a valid Maternity Exemption Certificate to claim the entitlement.

Not sure how it works? Our free information sheet explains:
• Who is entitled
• How to apply for a Maternity Exemption Certificate
• What to do if you’ve paid for prescriptions
• What to do if you’ve received a prescription penalty

This International Day of Charity, your support can make a difference.

As a small charity, we rely on donations to support pregnant women and new parents facing discrimination, and campaign for stronger maternity rights and pay.

Right now, demand for our advice is higher than ever:
📞 We can answer just 1 in 4 calls
📧 Only 11% of people seeking email advice can access our service.

A small monthly donation can help us reach more people when they need us most. Help us be there.

Today at 12pm, hundreds of parents are downing tools to take part in the Parent Strike, organised by Mother Pukka and The Dad Shift, calling for proper paternity leave and genuine flexible working rights.

Recent research by Maternity Action and UNISON showed that half (51%) of all women who had left their job after maternity leave cited a lack of flexibility, including having a flexible working request denied, not being allowed to work part time or from home, as a reason.
