This week marks a major milestone for AfriKids as our community-led Rise Up pilot gets underway in northern Ghana!
These photos capture the first Core Agents Training workshops, bringing together 150 local volunteers across the Talensi, Kassena Nankana West and Builsa South districts of Ghana’s Upper East Region. Together, they’re building the knowledge and skills they need to put their communities at the heart of improving children’s learning.
The volunteers were nominated by their communities to take part in the training, which covers a range of topics including the value of education, building stronger bonds with children, financial literacy and child protection.
After the training, they’ll take this knowledge back into their communities, facilitating Guardian Learning Circles in their local dialects where caregivers can share experiences and build confidence and practical skills to support their children’s learning at home.
Because the volunteers are from these communities themselves, they understand the challenges families face- helping to ensure the sessions stay relevant, accessible and rooted in local knowledge and experience.
They’ll also act as an important bridge between families and schools, helping parents engage with teachers and advocate for the positive learning environments children need to thrive.
It’s an exciting moment as the first Core Agents begin putting this community-led approach into action! 💙
