World Day Against Child Labour — June 12
Today, we unite with the world to say NO to child labour.
Approximately 2.5 million children in Ghana (28% of all children aged 5 to 17) are engaged in child labor, with about 1.2 million working in hazardous, exploitative conditions. Of these working children, nearly half a million are completely out of school, according to the Labour Organisation (ILO).
At AfriKids, the fight against child labour is at the heart of our child protection work.
On this World Day Against Child Labour, AfriKids calls on communities, leaders, and families to stand together. Let’s protect our children from exploitation and give them the chance to thrive in school, not in the fields.

Together for a
On May 29th, in the joined the global movement to end period stigma and empower girls with dignity and confidence.
From radio discussions that sparked open conversations, to courtesy calls with community leaders, and a lively school durbar on — the day was filled with learning, advocacy, and inspiration.
A special highlight was Blessing, our proud Junior high School pupil and menstrual hygiene ambassador, who continues to champion education and support for girls across the district. Blessing had represented young people from Ghana’s north at the ’summit in Yamoussuokro, Côte d’Ivoire through the kind support of the , and their partners. Her voice reminds us that when girls are resourced and supported, communities thrive.
Together, we are building a future where every girl can manage her period safely, confidently, and without shame.

This International Day of Families, we’re celebrating the powerful role families play in helping children learn 💙📚

In northern Ghana, almost 90% of a child’s life is spent outside the classroom. That means learning doesn’t just happen at school. It’s shaped every day at home and in the community. 🌟

From making sure children arrive at school fed, rested and ready to engage, to building the confidence to support learning at home, families are at the heart of every child’s learning journey.

And when families and communities come together to prioritise learning, children are given the support and opportunity they need to thrive and shape a brighter future.

The Adolescent Girls Summit 2026 – Youth Power in Action
Imagine more than 200 young people from 25 countries coming together in Côte d’Ivoire — not to sit quietly while adults talk, but to run the whole show themselves. That’s what happened at the 2026. For three days, teens and young adults led workshops, debates, performances, and even wrote the Action Plan for Gender Justice 2026–2028.
The energy was electric as 14-year old Blessing, representing AfriKids, joined other girls and boys to tack tough issues like child marriage, menstrual health, gender based violence, and digital advocacy. They didn’t shy away from taboos — they broke them. Poetry, drama, and spoken word turned personal stories into powerful calls for change.
The summit’s big takeaway? Youth are leaders right now. Not tomorrow, not someday — today.
For the Ghanaian team, it was transformative. Blessing’s words on child marriage inspired action, Zuleiha’s poem on education moved hearts, and Muhsinatu’s STEM passion showed what’s possible when girls are given the tools.
It was proof that when young people are trusted, they lead boldly, creatively, and with unstoppable energy.
Huge thank you to and for making it possible for the Ghanaian team to participate.
