This week marks a major milestone for AfriKids as our community-led Rise Up pilot gets underway in northern Ghana!

These photos capture the first Core Agents Training workshops, bringing together 150 local volunteers across the Talensi, Kassena Nankana West and Builsa South districts of Ghana’s Upper East Region. Together, they’re building the knowledge and skills they need to put their communities at the heart of improving children’s learning.

The volunteers were nominated by their communities to take part in the training, which covers a range of topics including the value of education, building stronger bonds with children, financial literacy and child protection.

After the training, they’ll take this knowledge back into their communities, facilitating Guardian Learning Circles in their local dialects where caregivers can share experiences and build confidence and practical skills to support their children’s learning at home.

Because the volunteers are from these communities themselves, they understand the challenges families face- helping to ensure the sessions stay relevant, accessible and rooted in local knowledge and experience.

They’ll also act as an important bridge between families and schools, helping parents engage with teachers and advocate for the positive learning environments children need to thrive.

It’s an exciting moment as the first Core Agents begin putting this community-led approach into action! 💙

We’re excited to share some wonderful news!

AfriKids Ghana has been selected as a FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund Grantee (Cohort 2).

The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is a new initiative by FIFA and Global Citizen to expand access to quality education and football for children in more than 200 communities worldwide.

The Fund aims to mobilize USD $100 million by the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. To date, it has already raised more than USD $30 million through contributions from philanthropies, major brands and corporations, individual donors, and proceeds from ticket sales to major music and sporting events.

AfriKids Ghana is honored to be among the organizations receiving a grant to expand access to and improve children’s education. We are proud to be part of the second cohort of grantees helping create brighter futures for children around the world.

This support will strengthen our work to ensure that children across northern Ghana are safe, healthy, and learning.

Thank you to FIFA, Global Citizen, our communities, partners, and supporters for making this possible!!

We’ve just wrapped up our two‑day Board Retreat — a rich time together that gave space for learning, reflection, and forward planning. Across the sessions, Board members and Directors explored how to strengthen our governance and position AfriKids Ghana to make an even bigger difference. We were fortunate to be guided by Dr. Esi Sey and to draw inspiration from guest speakers Sally of and Kofi Asare of Ghana, whose insights sparked fresh thinking. In the weeks ahead, we’ll begin sharing the priorities that emerged and the steps we’re taking to bring them to life.
