Last Friday we wrapped up the week with coffee and conversation at our Startups Coffee Corner with HERcules (powered by Joelson). ☕

It was extra special this time as we had the brilliant E-J and Maks from Epowar showcasing their personal safety app that is solving the global women’s safety crisis. Watching their growth during our Accelerator has been brilliant, and we were glad to showcase them today!

If you don’t want to miss the next one, be sure to join the community and follow us!

🚀 Meet the VC Backed Scientist Making Precision Medicine Accessible with Pahini P., Founder and CEO of Panakeia.

Does your heart sink when you hear the words “cancer scare”? Mine does.

As a PhD life scientist when Pahini had a scare she was shocked at how long it took for results.

She’s spent the last 7 years building Panakeia - the AI platform to enable simplified, rapid diagnostics to inform the precision treatment of cancer.

It’s a been a difficult journey and it’s never easy to expand across NHS trusts but Panakeia is flying today.

I’d heard so many good things about Pahini from previous podcast guests and it was a pleasure to finally interview her.

We learn how all about hiring, pricing and so much more in a challenging space.

Pahini shouted out Mariam Ahmed (ep 194), Dr Bea Bakshi (ep 244), Kanwal Bhatia, and Karen Sayal MD PhD at the end of this episode.

🥳 Packed out room for Bae HQ’s Vital Signs: AI x Health Tech event last night at Civo!

It’s always fun to bring together so many innovative minds in one space across founders, operators, investors and ecosystem players.

We had an all-star panel who shared unfiltered (and unrecorded!) insights:

🚀 Pooja Sikka - General partner at Meridian Health Ventures
🚀 Dr Jing Ouyang - Cofounder and CGO at Patchwork Health
🚀 Shamik J Parekh - Founding partner at Havilland Health

Massive thank you to them for sharing their real thoughts and not always agreeing!

Health Tech is an interesting moment where the potential of AI help boost patient outcomes yet it has to be balanced with the risks.

The barriers to entry for building have reduced but navigating regulation, international markets and more remain ways of building defensibility.

There were so many startups in the audience creating new solutions to issues they’d faced as clinicians.

We also had Mark Bartlett, Founder of StoreGene and Bae Accelerator member, wow the audience with his pitch.

Feel free to share your biggest takeaways from the evening if you were there.

Huge thank you to our partners HSBC Innovation Banking, Vestd, and Accountancy Cloud for supporting the event!

Over 12,000 people have been to our events and talks, and we expect to hit 15,000 by the end of the year.

If you don’t want to miss the next one, make sure you join the community in the comments to keep up to date.

🚀 Meet the VC Partner Who Built A Billion Portfolio Value Investing In Scientists with Devika Thapar, Cofounder of Wilbe. ( #305)

When AI seems to be eating startups alive, how do you differentiate? Where’s the real value? Doing hard things.

Devika backs scientists who’ve done world-leading research to build and scale startups.

It started from a frustation at how such intelligent minds were being overlooked.

She started Wilbe lean with her cofounder from the Isle of Wight (Silicon Valley’s idol).

They’ve trained 1400 researchers through their platform and naturally it made sense to start in investing in the best.

This includes Proxima Fusion, Apoha and ExpressionEdits.

There’s been a big problem of scientist founders being screwed over by investors and universities which stops their innovations stop having maximum impact.

If you’re a scientist or engineer, you’ll want to listen to what Devika has to say!

You can catch the full Startups Inside Out episode (305) by Bae HQ through the link in our bio.

Devika shouted out Anshika Srivastava, Subaita Rahman, and Jasnam Sidhu at the end of this episode.

🚀 Meet the Founder Who Scaled to $3M ARR in 13 Months Without VC with Nick Singh , Founder of Eat Ping. .ping

Nick Singh is Exhibit A to prove wrong anyone who thinks UK founders lack boldness and hunger (not just because he makes Chinese food!).

He shouted out his fiance on the podcast even though he hadn’t asked her to marry him yet! That takes guts. (She said yes!)

Nick exited his first startup and was hiking when he heard someone complain about how there weren’t good healthy asian food options.

Eat Ping was born but to class the company as just a great-tasting meal delivery service would be massively underrating them.

Nick has used machine learning and AI throughout the process to optimise everything from the supply chain to the flavours.

This intensity is how he got to $3m ARR in 13 months.

It also applies to his marketing with him taking off by showing both founder life and the food itself.

You only have to listen to him to realise that he isn’t afraid to take a chance and create a new reality.

You can catch the full Startups Inside Out episode (304) by Bae HQ through the link in our bio.

Nick shouted out Josef Chen, Cleo S., Viraj Acharya, Amardeep Parmar at the end of this episode.

And you’ll need to watch for Nick’s fiance shoutout 👀.

🚀 Meet the Doctor Who’s Taught 200,000 Clinicians Through His EdTech with Dr. Azeem Alam BEM, Cofounder and Head of Product at BiteWorld.

Doctors do an incredible job yet so many see wider issues around them and want to do something about them.

Azeem had an entrepenerial streak which led him to seek opportunities beyond his day job.

So he cofounded BiteWorld which includes BitePACES, BiteMedicine and BiteLabs Digital Health.

BiteLabs Digital Health comes from realising so many clinicians were in the same place as him. Vastly talented but not sure how to get involved with the health tech space and make a difference.

£20m has been raised by people who went through that programme.

Azeem is angel investor himself and advises VC funds, which gives him an unique insight into the world of clinicians turned entrepreneurs.

You can catch the full Startups Inside Out episode (303) by Bae HQ through the link in the comments.

Azeem shouted out Dr. Ben Maruthappu, Sam Dhesi, MD, and Seema Dadhania at the end of this episode.

🎉 Bae Accelerator launch dinner earlier this week was buzzing!

We brought together founders from our 2026 cohort with the scaled founders, senior investors and Joelson who will be leading exclusive sessions for them.

Nights like this are what make all the insane hard work that goes into Bae HQ feel worth it.

Everyone is building and innovating but everyone is just people.

The conversations drifted between the hardcore business to the random stories of life that have people laughing the night away.

The cohort founders have brought incredible energy to the programme so far and are seizing their opportunities.

We can’t thank the people who were in the room just to pay it forward enough. Bae HQ is built on people with your attitude.

Huge thank you to Joelson, the exclusive legal partner and associate partner for the programme.

🎤 Meet the Optometrist Who Built a Multimillion Pound Eyewear and Health Tech Brand with Dhruvin Patel Dhruvin Patel , Founder of Ocushield. Ocushield®

I angel invested in Dhruvin after he last appeared on the podcast back in 2024.

He’s come a long way since! (I can’t claim too much credit but I will ;)).

Ocushield was already a million pound blue-light blocking product brand at the time yet now he’s built out a considerable tech side of the business.

They now work with corporates to offer online vision tests to tackle the massive problem of eye issues amongst those staring at screens all day.

Dhruvin explains how he runs both a consumer brand and a tech business at once and how they compliment each other.

I asked him if he was at all intimidated by changing from what he’d known for years into a new type of venture.

The answer was a clear “NO”.

You can catch the full Startups Inside Out episode (302) by Bae HQ through the link in the comments.

Dhruvin shouted out Varun Bhanot Varun Bhanot (episodes 12 and 216), Joel Gujral Joel Gujral (episode 64) and Vishal Amin Vishal Amin (episode 126) at the end of this episode.
