Meet Ollie 💙

Tomorrow, Ollie will run the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø in memory of his friend and colleague, Chris.

After meeting at Brentford FC in 2023, the pair quickly bonded over life as Australians living far from home. Chris had moved to the UK in his early 20’s, living in Newcastle before settling in London with his wife, Bianca. Ollie said, "We’re both Australians far from home, and he helped me a lot with that adjustment period. I would be missing ome and struggling with being so far away, but Chris helped with that and it was nice o have someone who knew what that was like. His advice was invaluable. He had a huge impact on me.”

Chris was treated at Guy’s Cancer Centre following a cancer diagnosis in 2021. Over four years, he underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery before sadly passing away from colorectal cancer in October 2025.

Wanting to honour Chris’ memory, Ollie chose to support us by taking on the same marathon Chris once ran himself - taking place during the week of Chris’ birthday, under Tromsø’s 24-hour midnight sun.

Joined by friends, housemates and family, Ollie has now raised more than £10,000 💙

Thank you so much for your support, Ollie. And we're wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow!

This Men’s Health Week, we’re sharing Gary’s story 💙

Gary knew he was at higher risk of prostate cancer due to his family history, and when he was diagnosed, he underwent radical prostatectomy surgery to remove the tumour.

“Before my surgery I was really scared and in tears, but my nurse was the best in the world. He made me laugh so much and just took all the worry away.”

His surgeon used innovative robotic-assisted keyhole surgery, allowing for greater precision and a successful outcome. Gary said, “I won’t lie, it’s tough. The after-effects hit me harder than I expected, but I’m determined to make the most of my second chance.”

Since then, Gary has even taken on three marathons for Team GCC to give back to the teams who supported him.

Your support helps fund life-changing technology like the robotic systems used in Gary’s care, and supports men facing cancer every day. Thank you 💙

Why take on the St Thomas’ Abseil alone when you can do it with friends?

You don’t have to face this challenge by yourself. Rally your crew and take the plunge together! With four rope lines running at once, you’ll be abseiling side by side with up to three friends.

Got a bigger group? No problem, we’ll do our best to make sure your whole team can go in the same half-hour time slot. The more, the merrier. Just make sure everyone signs up, and we’ll handle the rest!

Tag someone who you’d like to abseil with 💙

Thanks to your support, we’re funding cutting-edge research like the Advanced Therapies (IEC) Project - a personalised treatment that modifies a patient’s own immune cells to fight cancer more precisely and effectively than traditional therapies.

IEC therapy offers new hope for patients with hard-to-treat cancers, often in a single treatment with fewer side effects. With your help, we’ve been able to set up the infrastructure and trained the teams to deliver this life-changing care at Guy’s Cancer.

Linda Gomm, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, said, “Being able to offer these advanced targeted treatments to patients is giving them another line of therapy. These therapies won’t be available everywhere, and the reason we’re able to offer these to patients is with the support of Guy’s Cancer Charity.”

Together, we can help provide the very latest in cancer care and fund more personalised treatments that transform lives.

Did you know that around 375,000 people across the UK are diagnosed with cancer each year?

If you or a loved one is facing this, you probably have many questions - like what to do next, how to share the news, and what treatment will look like. That’s why we’ve funded Now What? a cancer support podcast.

In episode one, you’ll hear the personal stories of cancer patients and get advice from staff at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to find out what happens when you’re diagnosed with cancer.
