Earlier this year, Eddie found a lump in one of his testicles.

After he got it checked. Eddie was diagnosed with stage 1 testicular cancer, and went on to have surgery and treatment. Then came the news that he was cancer-free.

Now, Eddie and his girlfriend Meg are taking on the St Thomas' Abseil in September, raising money for the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) team at Guy's Cancer.

Eddie said:
"I’m incredibly lucky that this has affected me so minimally, so I want to give back to the support groups that have helped me and countless other young people through similar situations."

The TYA team is there for young people facing cancer, offering counselling, connecting patients with the right charities and bringing people together who understand what they're going through.

Eddie also wants to spread awareness of how important it is for people to check themselves and to not be afraid about getting these things investigated. Early diagnosis saves lives.

Did you know that £50 could fund researchers to develop pioneering new cancer treatments?

That’s enough to support teams like the Translational Oncology and Urology Research, who are dedicated to advancing innovative cancer treatments. Their research aims to improve treatments and outcomes for patients battling bladder, prostate, renal, and testicular cancer. Not only here in the UK but around the world.

Your support plays a crucial role in driving these advancements and shaping the future of cancer care at Guy's Cancer.

Meet Dr Clare Jacobson, clinical psychologist at Guy’s Cancer, leading the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) cancer psychology service.

Funding from Guy’s Cancer Charity supports specialist therapies, equipment, travel, and social opportunities, helping young people with cancer or brain tumours access care that goes beyond what the NHS alone can provide.

In 2024, Clare and her husband, Darren, took on the St Thomas’ Hospital abseil to celebrate and support the incredible work of her team.

She said, “Our team do such incredible things with the funding we have that I wanted to celebrate that and do something new to support what we do. A lot of what I do is confidential between me and a young person and I put a lot of my energy, emotion, and self into that work.”

“For me, the abseil was a chance to do something more collective, marking the work our team does in a more concrete way that people can see and feel a part of.”
