Our vision is a world where everyone can decide freely whether, when, and how many children they want, for the benefit of all people and the planet. We believe that without access to adequate sexual and reproductive health, rights, information and services, neither the empowerment of women nor sustainable development can ever be achieved.

A huge THANK YOU to those of you who have already donated to Margaret Pyke Trust's Women and Girls Match Fund ( ) campaign. We are absolutely delighted to let you know that we have hit our target, and your donations will help us make double the difference!

There is still time to donate if you are able, which you can do by going to: https://shorturl.at/B5mCq

Since we’ve hit our target, further donations will not be doubled, but you can still contribute until midday Thursday 17 October 2024 – and every donation supports women and girls’ access to life-saving sexual and reproductive health services through our USHAPE programme in Uganda.

We have exciting news! Margaret Pyke Trust has been selected to participate in the Big Give’s Women and Girls Match Fund ( ). This means that until noon on 17 October 2024 (UK time), every contribution made to us via our Big Give campaign page will be DOUBLED: https://shorturl.at/B5mCq

All funds raised will go towards USHAPE, our family planning training and service improvement programme. USHAPE supports hospitals to provide low-cost and high-quality sexual and reproductive health training for clinical staff, which is severely lacking in Uganda. It was designed with Ugandan clinicians to respond to the specific health challenges in rural Uganda.

USHAPE makes a real difference to the lives of women and girls who often cannot receive the life-saving reproductive health services they want due to a lack of trained healthcare providers: over the last three years alone, USHAPE implementation has averted an estimated 4,000 unintended pregnancies, and saved the lives of approximately 15 mothers and 200 children from preventable deaths.

By donating (and sharing this post!), you are directly helping women and girls choose the safe, suitable and effective contraception they want, and you’re helping to sustain all the work we do at Margaret Pyke Trust. If you're able, please donate here: https://shorturl.at/B5mCq

Thank you for your support!

We are excited to share a new publication from the IUCN Biodiversity & Family Planning Task Force.

Countries which have ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity are required to develop and implement national biodiversity strategies and are currently updating these plans.

In "Reproductive choice in national biodiversity policy" we introduce the background to the plans, highlight how to engage in national revision processes, and suggest arguments to use in order to promote the importance of removing barriers to voluntary and rights-based family planning and the development of new Population, Health and Environment (PHE) programmes within those plans.

What Does Reproductive Health Have to Do With Climate Vulnerability? https://reasonstobecheerful.world/what-does-reproductive-health-have-to-do-with-climate-vulnerability/

Delighted to have worked with the wonderful health & environment journalist Veronika Perková on this balanced and insightful article highlighting the growing awareness of how reproductive choice contributes to climate adaptation and resilience.

Around the world, people and organizations are starting to recognize the role family planning can play in climate adaptation and resilience.

The Global Species Action Plan has just been launched in Nairobi, and sets out a transformative path for countries to respond to biodiversity loss and recognises that “removal of barriers to rights-based voluntary family planning” is one of the many complementary actions we must undertake to do so. This ground-breaking development, in the flagship biodiversity plan that is meant to guide countries as they plan their actions to achieve the Global Biodiversity Framework, was a direct result of our work over many months.

In Rukiga, Uganda, we are working with International Crane Foundation and Rugarama Hospital. Today, some conservation staff asked to learn more about the range of 11 modern methods of contraception that are included in our service provision. We were happy to oblige, as we've learned so much from them about climate smart agriculture, wetlands and cranes.
