On 🌍 we’re excited to release our new short film: RAINFOREST LIFELINES: Amplifying Indigenous Voices

🎥 Filmed in London at Orleans House Gallery this video brings together powerful testimonies and a moving ceremony of solidarity with Indigenous campaigners from Sarawak, Malaysia — whose forests, cultures and rights are under increasing threat. As we move toward COP30 in Brazil’s Amazon, these voices are more vital than ever. To explore the collaborative and creative aspects of the Rainforest Lifelines ceremony, please head to our blog https://www.cleanupthetropicaltimbertrade.org/post/rainforest-lifelines-amplifying-indigenous-voices

➡️ Please watch, share, and help spread the word. Then take action: sign Friends of the Earth petition calling for a new UK Business, Human Rights and Environment Act https://action.friendsoftheearth.uk/petition/make-companies-accountable-harm-for-destroying-forests-and-lives, and email your MP to support it through Parliament https://action.friendsoftheearth.uk/petition/make-companies-accountable-harm-people-and-environment

This is our chance to hold UK corporations accountable for the environmental harm and human rights abuses in their supply chains.

🙏Huge thanks to filmmaker Fergus Di**le Films Limited for capturing the event so sensitively, with support from Ross Harrison and archive footage from Bruno Manser Fonds Gaby Solly, and others.

Thank you Celine, Mutang, Willie, Dayang and Nick 🫶

Interesting read!

One of his most memorable investigative stories of James Ritchie involved Bruno Manser, the Swiss environmental and human rights activist who had entered Sarawak illegally to live among the nomadic Penan people.

Manser brought international attention to the destruction of the Borneo rainforest due to logging.

James tracked Manser down, secured an exclusive interview, and published a front-page series in the New Straits Times on September 9, 1986.

🌿 Indigenous Expertise for Conservation in Sarawak: A Dialogue

Huge thanks to Bruno Manser Fonds, Keruan - Voices of the Penans and SAVE Rivers for hosting this eye-opening seminar at the Royal Geographical Society last week.

It was powerful to hear directly from Indigenous voices—stories told by those who live them. 💚

We listened to Ukau Lupung and Ngo Nyapong from Bateu Bungan, Mulu, with Ukau’s daughter Dayang beautifully translating their words from Penan to English. Their stories—and the videos recorded by Penan communities mapping their own forests—were deeply moving and connected with everyone in the room.

Thank you to Dayang Ukau and Willie Kajan for sharing reflections on Gunung Mulu National Park. Despite the nerves, your voices are full of passion and truth.

The discussion on the Magoh Biosphere from Mutang Urud, Lerroy Lemen, and Jayl Langub opened up exciting possibilities. And huge appreciation to Komeok Joe and Celine Lim for sharing lessons from the Baram Peace Park—an honest and grounded reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice.

We also heard from Prof J. Peter Brosius, YB See Chee How, Ian MacKenzie, Gabriel Tonga Noweg, and Dr. June Rubis—each speaker bringing clarity, passion, and deep knowledge. The day closed with powerful remarks from Ida Theilade and Mutang Urud.

🌞 Afterward, a gentle walk through South Kensington in the April sunshine with the crew—sharing stories, laughter, and ancestral wisdom over Tiger beer & Malaysian coffee.

A day of learning, listening, and shifting perspectives. Indigenous peoples are the frontline defenders of our forests and our planet. It’s time to listen, learn—and follow their lead. ✊🏽🌏
